In wake of the massive protests in different parts of the state of Arunachal Pradesh over the Permanent residence certificate(PRC) row, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday evening called for all political parties meeting in the state capital.
The emergency meeting has been called as unruly mob continued to create unrest in the state over state government’s move to provide PRC to non-tribals ransacking the bungalow of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein in Itanagar on Sunday.
The Chief Minister is reported to hold talks with the political aprties to bring back normalcy in the state and is likely to take a decision on dissolving the assembly.
Sources informed that on February 23rd, a Congress delegation had met the Arunachal Governor Brig (retd) BD Mishra urging him to dissolve the government and announce President’s Rule citing constitutional machinery break down under the present government.
Meanwhile, there are no official statements regarding the promulgation of the President’s rule.
An official order issued by the Arunachal government on February 24th read, “Considering the present situation in respect of the matter pertaining to grant of PRC to non APST residents of Namsai and Chaglang districts, the State Government has decided that no further action shall be taken in respect of grant of PRC,”
Keeping in view of the agitation, six companies of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were been deployed in Itanagar on Sunday to restore the law and order situation. Section 144 has also been imposed in the state.
