A student of class IV of Phungyar Tribal School, MK Thotthan was charred to death by a live wire this morning at around 8:30 near Hundung Godah village, under Phungyar sub-division, Kamjong district.
The boy is 10 years of age and is the son of MK Rockey and MK Mercy of Phalang village.
As per information by villagers, the incident happened this morning at one of the snap electric pole between Phalang and Goda village.
It is learnt that, two other boys were also seriously injured and are in unconscious state while trying to pull out and save Thotthan. The two boys have been identified as Ngahanthem Jajo, son of Ningreishang Jajo and Okpei Jajo, son of Malungchang Jajo.
It is also learnt that MK. Thotthan and his friends came home for Good Friday and Easter holidays. Thotthan and his friends went to pay a visit to his grandmother at Goda village and while returning back home Thotthan step onto the live wire. Detailed information on when and how the wire got snapped and how it was kept lying there is yet to be ascertained till the filing of this report.
Due to remoteness and weak mobile phone connection, an attempt to reach SDPO of Phungyar could not be made.
A request for FIR in OC Phungyar has been filed by one member of Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights, Ukhrul (NPMHR), Hungyohong. In his letter statement, it said that the boy’s lifeless body was found hanging on the livewire (High Tension wire) from the leaning post which was pressed too low just above the ground.
