IMPHAL | May 31: Two days after the mother of fashion designer, Robert Naorem was found mysteriously dead in her own residence, police have today arrested the husband of the deceased, Naorem Dijamani Singh, as prime suspect.
However, superintendent of police, Imphal West, K. Meghachandra said no confirmation can be made yet whether he is the real culprit or not.
Police have also picked up three masons including driver of Dijamani, for interrogation at police station.
Whereas Robert has said that “the perpetrator must be booked immediately, whoever it is, even if it is a close relative or neighbour, I want to give the last rite of my mother only after finding out the real culprit.”
He further said such incidents can happen to anyone and in order to stop such crimes, government must book and punish the culprit immediately.
A ‘Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Naorem (O) Rekha Devi’ was formed yesterday evening to give assistance in seeking justice to the family members.
A sit-in-protest was staged today by the JAC and the locals at Singjamei Thokchom Leikai, Imphal.
Speaking to media, convener of the JAC, Nameirakpam Michael, while decrying the killing of Rekha, said government must book the culprit before June 5 failing which, it would seek to intense form of agitations.
He further said though state police have immediately arrested three masons for interrogation, it has failed to book the culprit so far.
