IMPHAL | Jul 23: Locals of Thangmeiband took to the streets and blocked all roads passing through the locality and other adjoining roads, stopping all vehicular movements. Students of DM College and All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) which is one of the apex student bodies in the State, took part in the protest.

The protestors chanted different slogans in the streets demanding justice for the deceased. Briefing media during the protest, president of All Manipur Students Union, Peter Laishram told media that every parent enroll their children in boarding thinking that it is a secure place for their children but recently, unwanted incidents are happening in different hostels in the State.

“The death of Ningthoujam Babysana, was a conspired murder by the school authorities since they have failed to make any clarification till date,” he alleged. Besides that, the state government has not given any assurance to book the culprits behind the murder.

Denouncing the claims that the incident was a case of suicide, he further questioned how other 36 students who were staying in the dormitory did not have any knowledge about the incident, which is a clear indication that the school authority was involved in the incident.

He further warned that AMSU will continue to agitate unless the culprits behind the death are booked and punished. The state government should draft a regulation act for boardings and hostels in the State, he added.

Later, a 13-member team of JAC along with local meira paibi of Thangmeiband meet education minister, Th. Radheshyam and submitted a memorandum this evening.
