Our Correspondent | Kohima | February 26: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today told the floor of the House that there are 12, 09, 613 voters in Nagaland as per final published E-Roll 2019.

Out of this, 6, 13, 409 belonging to male and female voters at 5, 96, 204.

Replying on MLA Yitachu, Rio said that preparation of the electoral rolls for all elections to Parliament and to the Legislature of every state is done under the superintendence, direction and control of the Election Commission of India by powers vested under the Article 324 (I) of the Constitution of India.

Rio through producing annexure explained various steps taken to curb proxy and ineligible entries in the electoral roll on the directions of the Election Commission of India,

Rio explained that before the commencement of summary revision which is conducted every year, the Booth Level Officers conduct House to House field visit or their respective part/polling station. During the visit, the BLO also collects information of persons eligible for inclusion, multiple entries, dead electors, permanently shifted electors etc.

Such cases are processed for appropriate action during revision exercise.
During summary revision of electoral rolls, any ineligible entry in the roll can be objected to and appropriate actions are taken following due procedure or law/rule for their removal.

Special camp days also conducted during revision period where the electoral roll is verified and read out in meetings conducted by BLOs.
Adequate numbers of relevant forms are also made available for new inclusion correction, transposition and deletion of ineligible entries.

Recognized political parties are issued with draft electoral rolls for necessary verification, too. Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by the political parties are allowed to file applications for deletion of ineligible entries in the roll.

During continuous updation, applications received for deletion and correction up to the announcement of elections are processed for appropriate necessary action.

Software generated Demographically Similar Entries (DSEs) and reported multiple entries in the electoral rolls are processed for appropriate action.
Further, registered death entries are collected from the concerned authority and processed for appropriate action.
