Dr. L Angshim Dangshawa Maring is among the 18 candidates from North East states and the only Naga to have cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination 2018-19. TangkhulOnline: First of all congratulations on cracking UPSC exams. What was your first reaction when you heard the news?
Dr. L Angshim Dangshawa Maring: Thank you tangkhulonline.com for having me. I checked the final result by myself. I was happy to see my name, but also not extremely excited as my rank was not that good. But I thanked God at that moment.
TangkhulOnline: Can you tell us a little about your academic background?
Dr. L Angshim: I did my schooling till class 6 in my village school(Kangoi Khullen Eastern Jr High School). Then passed out X(1st Div) from St Joseph’s High School,Kuraopokpi, Pallel in 2008. Passed out XII(1st Div) from Royal Academy of Sciences, Wangkhei, Imphal in 2010. Started MBBS at JNIMS, Imphal in 2011, passed out in 2016 and completed internship in 2017
TangkhulOnline: That is an impressive academic background. Apart from books and studies, how do you spend your free time?
Dr. L Angshim: I’m involved in most of the social events like sports, literary events, church programmes etc. I love making friends, and also an optimists. I also play football, I love singing, cooking and debating.
TangkhulOnline: Can you share us about your family background and village? How helpful were they in your life?
Dr. L Angshim: I came from rural hilly village called Kangoi khullen, Tengnoupal dist. Mom and dad, 3 elder brothers(immediate elder is also a doctor) and one elder sister. My family has been source of motivation and positive energy.

TangkhulOnline: Since when did you start preparing for the UPSC? How many hours did you study in a day?
Dr. L Angshim: Started UPSC preparation from June 2017 at Delhi. Did effective study on an average of 8 hours/day.
TangkhulOnline: What was your Optional subject?
Dr. L Angshim: Medical Science
TangkhulOnline: How tough was UPSC to crack?
Dr. L Angshim: It was very tough because of intense competition.
TangkhulOnline: About your expectations and anxious moments before and after the Mains and Interview.
Dr. L Angshim: Main result was doubtful and anxious as i had no baseline to self assess my performance(because of first attempt). I had more confidence about interview result, but still more anxious on the result day as it will be the final merit list.
TangkhulOnline: How would you contribute to our society through your service?
Dr. L Angshim: Making a society better is a responsibility of every human being. I only have to be a part of the responsible citizens and play my part.
TangkhulOnline: Whom will you give credit for your success?
Dr. L Angshim: Psalm 75:6-7 says Promotion comes only from God. Of course my family, relatives, churches, teachers,friends etc. helped me in this journey.
TangkhulOnline: What is your message to all the UPSC services aspirants from NE?
Dr. L Angshim: Put God first, let Him clear the path for us so that it becomes easier. Strong determination, Disciplined & focused preparation is paramount. Believe in yourself and invest your time and labour for it. But also remember that Civil service is not the only future for us. Wish you all best luck and thank you.
