As the ensuing 17th Lok Sabha election approaches, pre-poll dramas continue to unfold as many BJP members and members of other political parties quit their respective parties to join Congress party.
As much as 22 office bearers and members including councillors, members of district councils among others of BJP and another two, have joined the Congress party.
A reception ceremony of the newly joined Congress members was held today at Congress Bhawan.
Speaking at the occasion, former chief minister and Congress Legislature Party leader, Okram Ibobi stated that lately the people have come to realise that only Congress party can save democratic values.
Referring to chief minister Nongthombam Biren’s statement that the current BJP government is facing huge inconveniences as there is huge liability of more than Rs 8000 crore incurred during the previous Congress government regime, Ibobi asked chief minister N Biren to consult the experts before attacking any political party to learn when the amount was borrowed. The amount was a total sum of amount borrowed and accumulated in the last 30-40 years, he added.
While pointing out that the BJP led government in the State had borrowed around Rs 2000 crore in its two years of governance, he observed that the government will encompass more than the liability for the past 40-50 years if they continue in the same trend.
Referring to the claims of BJP that the Congress candidates in the ensuing 17th Lok Sabha election are criminals, Ibobi contended that as much as 24 union cabinet ministers of the Narendra Modi led NDA government are criminals and have undergoing cases against them.
Sharing his experiences, member of district council of Thanlon assembly constituency Langkhanpau Huite, who newly joined the Congress party after leaving BJP, said that the BJP is one of the most discriminatory parties. She further stated that developing good connectivity of roads and transport will not save Manipur. Political party should know how to protect Manipur and Congress party is the only party which knew how to save Manipur, she added.
