A 7-year-old girl from Manipur is on her way to the United Nations Headquarter, Geneva, Switzerland to be part of the Sixth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risks Reduction 2019 to be held there from 13 – 17 May 2019, reports Northeast Today.
Studying in the 2nd standard, Licypriya Kangujam will be addressing the United Nations 2019 voicing the concern regarding plans and methods to reduce damages/disasters caused by deadly natural calamities.
The session will be held under the theme – “Resilience Dividend: Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Societies”.
Licypriya is currently working as Child Disaster Risks Reduction Advocate in International Youth Committee (IYC) and will be the youngest participant of the world of the session to be convened by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the Government of Switzerland.
Clearly adequately eligible for the responsibility, Licypriya will be representing all the children and young people of Asia at the global UN platform which is expected to host over 3,000 delegates and participants from 140 countries.
The session will also comprise governmental and intergovernmental organisations, United Nations and international organizations as well as groups including National Societies of Red Cross and Red Crescent organisations.
Apart from that, being part of the session for Disaster Risk Reduction will be various civil society and community practitioners, parliamentarians as well as individuals from science and technology, academia, private sector, media, so on and so forth.
Sharing a bit of her passionate voice, Licypriya said, “I get scared when I see people suffering and dying because of earthquakes, floods, and tsunami on TV. I cry when I see children losing their parents or people becoming homeless due to dangers of disasters. I urge everyone to join their hands, minds and passions to create a better world for all of us.”
It is, however, not Licypriya’s first foray into representing her region and nation in at a significant forum. She has earlier been invited to 2018 Asia Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risks Reduction in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia which was held on July 3 – 7, 2018.
All of 7 and dedicated to the cause, Licypriya has traveled over 8 countries to represent India in various capacities.
