Morung Express News |Dimapur | July 6: The bodies of two youths who drowned in the Doyang River, Wokha on July 5 are yet to be recovered despite search operations continuing for the second day in a row.
The search operations by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) resumed at around 6:00am, Saturday morning. A district administration official informed that in the meantime, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was requisitioned as they have expert divers with specialized equipment.
However their arrival at Doyang was delayed due to the road conditions and they were yet to reach till the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, district administration officials along with Dobashis, Wokha Police personnel and CISF stationed at the Doyang Hydro Electric Project (DHEP) carried out a combing operation on foot downstream for about a kilometer.
While they are yet to recover the bodies, the official informed that two locations have been identified for NDRF divers to search. All downstream villages have been alerted to inform the authorities if they find anything, it was added. The official further informed that no one will be allowed to take unnecessary videos and photos at the search site as a mark of respect for the victims and their families. “We are hopeful that we will have a breakthrough by noon tomorrow,” the official added.
The search operation is scheduled to resume at 5:00am, Sunday morning.
