IMPHAL | Aug 21: Chief minister, N. Biren Singh has today re-launched Manipur Heli-Service at Imphal International Airport, after it was suspended on February 9 due to completion of contract tenure with service provider, Pawan Hans.
The launching ceremony was organised by department of Transport. The helicopter service was being re-launched under the ministry of Home Affairs, GOI Subsidy Scheme.
While speaking at the launching function, Biren said that with the re-launching, helicopter services will be expanded to Thanlon and Parbung in addition to previous services namely, Jiribam, Tamenglong and Moreh. Above all, sight-seeing services will also be made available at a cost of Rs.2000 per head. The ticket cost is made cheaper than before, he said.
He said that it is very essential to have helicopter connectivity within the State according to its topography. With this concept, the state government has taken up this step as one of the most important initiative with the support of central government, he added.
Stating about the reason of putting the service on hold for around five months, he said that helicopter service was launched by the State for the first time in September as a trial of six month on contract basis. The contract period finished on February 9 but due to imposition of election code of conduct, re-tender for the service could not be floated, he said.
But it was conducted after election and won by “Global Vectra Helicorp Ltd (GVHL).” The company will continue their service till March 31, 2020, he added.
He further stated, “GVHL is India’s largest private sector helicopter operator. It is successfully operating in around 35 places of India and even in Arunachal Pradesh which is considered to be one of the most terrain regions of India.”
The will be made available at least thrice in a week. If needs be, it will increase, he added.
He also announced that tender process for the construction of new landing site of Imphal International Airport worth Rs. 600 crore is almost completed and construction will begin soon.
He continued that as per the proposal made by the state government, central government accepted to resume Imphal-Silchar air service soon and also approved for launching of Imphal-Mandalay and Imphal-Dibrugarh air service soon.
Along with this, Delhi-Silchar-Imphal, Delho-Aizawl-Imphal and Delhi-Agartala-Impha air service will be made available, he added.
It may be mentioned that the helicopter fare of Imphal-Jiribam is Rs. 3000 for one head per trip, Imphal-Moreh is Rs. 2000 for one head per trip and Imphal-Tamenglong is Rs. 2000 for one head per trip. It has the capacity of 8-12 passengers.
