KPI, 23rd Sep: Outer Manipur MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze launched Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) at Daili village in Kangpokpi district on Monday.
Daili village, which has been adopted by Dr Lorho, will be developed into a model village or “Adarsh Gram” under SAGY programme.
SAGY is a rural development programme broadly focusing upon holistic development in villages which includes social development, cultural development and motivating the people.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Lorho stated that PM Modi launched the scheme in 2014 with the objective of translating the comprehensive vision of Mahatma Gandhi about an ideal Indian village into reality, keeping in view of the present context. Under SAGY, each MP adopts a GP and guides its holistic progress giving importance for social development at par with infrastructure.
Dr Lorho stated that he selected to adopt Daili village under SAGY as Daili is a beautiful village comprehensively inhabited by various tribal communities along with some Meeteis and Nepalis. The village has the potential to be converted into one of the most beautiful villages in the country.
“SAGY is not a project where the government is the giver and villagers are the receivers. It is a programme where one needs to introspect deeply on what he or she could contribute to the society for the welfare of the people for harmonious and peaceful co-existence”, he said.
“However, there is something that is blocking each and every one of us from taking up a new initiative or a new step to bring new development for a better and harmonious environment. So let us do away with hatred, fear, enmity amongst us and move forward to contribute for a better tomorrow. Let us make ourselves a model to make Daili model village more beautiful and more prosperous”, the MP exhorted.
Congratulating the villagers, PHE minister Losii Dikho assured all possible help from his side as well as the state government in developing Daili into a model village.
DC Kangpokpi Lalithambigai K said that SAGY is not only for infrastructure development but it is about holistic and sustainable development where several aspects of development will be included. Villagers are the main stakeholders in the programme. She appealed for active participation of the villagers in the development of the village into a model one. DC Senapati Somorjit Salam, who also attended the function, elaborated on the importance SAGY and said that SAGY is not merely a single scheme rather it is a convergence of all schemes, which were earlier implemented separately, exclusively and concentrated on the integrated development of the SAGY village. Under SAGY, a model village is selected on the basis of Antardoya criteria.
The DC added that in terms of social development, the public need to inculcate the idea of voluntarism as without cooperation and convergence, the scheme cannot be successful. He then urged for co-operation from all the villagers, DLOs, ADC members and village authority in making Daili one of the best model villages in the country.
ADC Sadar Hills chairman, former chairman, ADC members, additional SP Kangpokpi, DLOs, officials of different departments in the district along with a large number of villagers of Daili village attended the programme.
