July 4. The operation is considered as one of the major breakthroughs in busting the international drug smuggling along the Indo-Myanmar border.
On receiving specific information, the team apprehended Ch. Jamkhomang Mate, 33, son of Jilpao Mate of Moreh Ward no-I, Moulhoi Veng, Tengnoupal district. Upon detailed examinations of the bag he was found carrying, 11 packets of the drug which was neatly concealed inside packets of Tea leaves. The value of confiscated drugs in the international market is estimated to be approximately Rs 8 crore.
The seizure of Methamphetamines is regarded as one of the biggest along the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh; and the major drug-busting operation shows a new trend among international smugglers of shifting from smuggling WY tablets and Heroin powder to Methamphetamines, which is also known by other names including crystal meth and ice amongst others. The smugglers have been utilising the strategic position of Moreh as a transit point to Indian market.
The suspected methamphetamine, which was seized under provision of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has been handed over to Moreh Police station for further legal actions.
