Dimapur, Nov. 12: The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival (Kiff), which also marks 100 years of Bengali cinema, is underway with more than 300 films from across the world vying for top prizes in various categories. Among those competing for the Best Film award are two films—“Look At The Sky” and “Pony Tale” —directed by two Poumai Naga brothers.

A total of 171 feature films, and 150 shorts and documentaries from 70 countries will be screened at the festival which got under way on Friday, Nov. 10 and runs till Nov. 15.

“Look At The Sky,” directed and written by Ashok Veilou from Purul village of Senapati district, Manipur, is competing for the Best Film award in the short film category. It will compete with several other films, including Shaqyo Dey’s “Head” and Gaurav Madan’s “Sambavtaha” (Probably) for the top price. Veilou’s Tou-Tai (Seed) had won the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger for best Short Film in 2016 at the same festival, so all eyes are on him this time too.

The film is about a man who courageously fights for his rights after being outcast from his own birthplace for not supporting the village candidate in the election. Featuring Ngaole Hepunii of Koide village in the lead role and several others from Purul, Koide, Oinam and Sirong villages in the supporting roles, the film will be premiered at the film festival on Thursday, Nov. 15.

The first ever Mr. Kohima 2018 organised by Meraki Entertainment Nagaland is scheduled to be held on Nov. 17 at Rcempa hall in Kohima.

An update from the organisers stated that 15 finalists have been selected out of the 42 contestants who competed in the general audition and campus audition held in different colleges across Kohima

The competition is being organised with the objective to develop and stimulate the growth of Naga youths in the entertainment industry, to explore and augment talents, while intensifying and enhancing Naga culture to exude to the rest, the update informed.

The grand finale of Face of Nagaland 2018 organised by Ethnic Trendzanda will be held on September 29 from 6:00 pm onwards at Imliyanger Memorial Centre, Dimapur.

According to Gihutoli Khulu, Director, Ethnic Trendzanda, 20 young women and men from different districts of the state who have been shortlisted for the final through auditions will take the stage to vie for the coveted title of Miss and Mister Face of Nagaland 2018.

Giving a brief background on the event theme ‘Being Organic’, Gihutoli stated that Ethnic Trendzanda wanted to encourage the people to go organic in order to live a healthy life and in doing so, vegetables which are being grown organically by local farmers in rich and fertile soil of Nagaland can also be marketed at a higher volume thereby promoting local farmers and traders. As part of event activities, contestants were made to undertake a case study on being organic wherein contestants had one to one interaction with the local vegetable vendors.

The first ever Mizoram International Short Film Festival (MISFF) began in Aizawl on late Thursday evening. The festival will culminate on Saturday.

Mizoram Chief Minister, Lal Thanhawla along with Bollywood actor, Gulshan Grover, National Award Winning Director, Umesh Shukla, noted actress cum script writer, Puja Ballutia and the Curator of MISFF, Captain Rahul Bali inaugurated the festival at Aijal Club in Aizawl.

The 3-day event has been jointly organised by the Government of Mizoram and Innovations India and aimed at promoting Mizoram as a “preferred destination for film making”.

GANGTOK: Sikkim girl Driysha Chettri was crowned Miss Teen Bharat and Miss Teen Himalayan International 2018 during the beauty pageant’s grand finale held at Delhi on August 31.

The 14-year-old is a student of Bahai School, Daragaon, Tadong here. She had applied for the beauty pageant through social media and was aptly supported by her parents and school teachers and principal.

Apart from the crown,
Driysha will be representing India in an international beauty pageant next year in Thailand. She told media here today that she has also been selected for a Bollywood film to be shot next year.

SHILLONG, August 29, 2018: Four women from Meghalaya will represent India in an international pageant to be held in the Philippines.

The women are Miss India Tourism Asia International Pageant 2018 winner Ibapynhun Syiemlieh, first runner-up Sookini Sutnga, second runner-up Panchali Ghosh and Mrs India Tourism International 2018 first runner-up Mebarisha Sohphoh.

The four women recently won in a beauty pageant held in Guwahati earlier this month.

Assam’s first 3D Animation film - “A Blind Dog”, has been selected to be officially screened at the APA Film Festival held as part of The 126th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association during August 9-12, 2018, at the famous Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

The 3D animation film will be screened on Saturday, 11th of August, in the slot 3:40 pm.

The APA film festival will be graced with several multi-award-winning films from across the globe such as Thank You for Your Service, Get Out, Lady Bird, Extremis, Munich ’72 and Beyond, The Way Home, Beyond the Burqa, etc.

Jano Nyekha, a folk fusion singer from Dimapur who shot to fame with her debut single ‘Aahoh’ in 2015 has released her fifth single music video ‘My Day’ at School of Music Dimapur on Saturday. 
The video was released by M-Table during a small event at the School of Music Dimapur premises in Naga United Village, Dimapur.
In a short speech, M-Table convenor, Yanren Kikon said with the advent of technology, music industry had become easily accessible but at the same time it had also opened the doors to numerous competitors.

New Delhi [India], Aug 3 (ANI): Tangkhul-Naga, one of the major Naga tribe in Manipur, is fast improving its skill in the movie industry. To promote the Tangkhul movie industry, Pheichon Productions was in the capital to promote their movie 'Pheichon'.

Tangkhul feature film 'Pheichon' was recently released at Ghalib Institute auditorium in New Delhi. Nick Wungsek was present as the chief guest during the premier show, which was attended by around 250 people.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest acknowledged the Pheichon team and said, "I love to support and promote our Tangkhul community. We, as a community, should support one another. Let us encourage each other and support the production team."
