Education minister, Thokchom Radheshyam today conducted a visit and inspected the conditions of St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School (SJHSS)-Sugnu, which unknown miscreants had set ablaze on the night of April 25.

During today’s visit, a meeting was convened between the minister and the chairman of JAC against the burning down of SJHSS-Sugnu, John Thangjalet Haokip along with other members of the JAC. The meeting was also attended by Father Dominic of SJHSS-Sugnu; its headmistress, reverend Sister Anise; director of Catholic Schools Society Manipur, Father Victor; SP Kakching, Victoria Yengkhom; ASPD of SSA Manipur, T. Phulen Meitei; ZEO of Kakching, Y Achouba; ZEO of Chandel, Nabachandra along with the school teachers, students and their parents.  A memorandum was also submitted by the JAC to Thokchom Radheshyam during the meeting.

The Education minister expressed his disappointment at the arson committed against the school adding that in this age when the education sector has become a primary importance, the act committed against one of the oldest Catholic schools in the state is a matter of shame.

He also assured that the State government would not remain silent on the matter and the culprits responsible will be booked at the earliest. “In regard to the incident, the police have already started arresting several suspects,” Thokchom Radheshyam continued adding that under the direct instructions of the CM, he himself along with police personnel under SP Kakching, Victoria Yengkhom, are taking every possible steps to nab the culprits. He further added an appeal to the public to help the government and police forces to arrest the culprits responsible in the interest of students.

As a part of today’s visit, the Education minister also inspected several schools at Serou, Pangaltabi, Wangoo and Kakching Khunou.
