IMPHAL| Jul 3: With a premier airlines of Myanmar, AIR KBZ signing a Memorandum of Understanding today with Imphal based KB Enterprises, the long-awaited Imphal-Mandalay Air service is set to be a reality very soon.
The signing of the MoU took place at the head office of Air KBZ, Yangon. It was signed between chief operating officer of AIR KBZ, U Kyaw Han and PangambamKunjabihari of KB Enterprises in the presence of chairman of Air KBZ, U AungAungZaw.
The flight will not only connect Imphal – Mandalay directly but will also fly Imphal to Bangkok via Mandalay. This would be one of the first scheduled flights that will fly from the Imphal International Airport.
It may be recalled that a few years back, Kunjabihari was instrumental in bringing the Golden Myanmar flight from Myanmar during the Sangai Festival; and so far there has been 9 International Golden Myanmar flights that has landed at the Imphal International Airport marking it as an International Airport.
Even though the MoU has been signed, the date of commencement of the flight much depends on the ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India (GoI), as well as the State Government.
PangambamKunjabihari stated that from the AIR KBZ side, they would like to start the operation as early as first week of October this year. “The Consulate General in Mandalay as well as the Embassy of India in Myanmar have appreciated the effort and also expressed their support in making this a success,” he said. Kunjabihari also expressed his appreciation to the department of Transport, government of Manipur (GoM) for their support and enthusiasm for this flight.
A high level delegation of AIR KBZ was in Imphal last month and several meetings were held with various stakeholders including the director of Airport Authority of India, Imphal; department of Transport, GoM; and India Foundation etc.
Though steps has been taken to start the flight there will be much needed support from the department of Transport, GoM and also from the ministry of Civil Aviation, GoI. The introduction of this flight would be an important landmark and would bring the people of Manipur and Myanmar closer.
