Myanmarese nationals have been facing severe inconvenience with the frequent security checks for passport verification along Indo Myanmar road whereas Indians are free from such frequent verifications.

President of Border Trade Chambers of Commerce, Myanmar, Pula Vao stated during the meeting held yesterday at district commissioner’s conference hall while signing a memorandum of understanding between Chindwin Development Corporation Limited, Myanmar and Business Excellence Group, Manipur, India in order to bring good relationship between the two nations under Act East Policy.

It may be mentioned that under the instruction of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy, the citizen of both the countries (India-Myanmar) can now make visits with passport and visa through land route. The border gate of both the countries was opened in August to improve trade and commerce including others which could be benefited for both the countries.

Chandigarh/Jalandhar, October 10 (IANS) In a joint operation, the Punjab Police and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested three students after busting a terror module of Kashmiri terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) in Punjab’s Jalandhar city.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora said in Chandigarh that the students were nabbed from the hostel of CT Institute of Engineering Management and Technology, located in Shahpur on the outskirts of Jalandhar city.

Starting from Monday, budget carrier IndiGo is offering up to 10 lakh seats for sale at a heavily-discounted ticket price, starting as low as Rs 999, for a one-way travel across its network. The four-day special sale, which ends on Thursday, is valid for travel between September 18, 2018 and March 30, 2019.

Besides, customers can avail an extra 20 per cent cashback of up to Rs 600 on payment made through digital wallet company MobiKwik for all bookings under the ‘festival season’ sale, IndiGo said in a release. However, this offer can be availed only once per user during the offer period.

As many as 107 Army personnel from a unit being commanded by a Colonel booked by CBI at the end of July for a fake encounter in Manipur are among the signatories of a petition in the Supreme Court, which is challenging the alleged dilution of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

These Army personnel, including four officers, 24 Junior Commissioned Officers and 79 Other Ranks, are part of the 26 Mechanised Infantry Battalion of which Colonel Vijay Singh Balhara is the Commanding Officer. Balhara and seven other personnel have been named in the FIR for the killing of 12-year-old Mohammad Azam Khan in Imphal on March 4, 2009 in an alleged fake encounter. Balhara was a Major at the time.

Launching an all-out attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pinned the blame on the previous UPA government and its ‘phone-a-loan scam’ for the bad loans in the banking sector and insisted that every penny given at the behest of ‘namdars’ (dynasts) will be recovered.

While addressing a gathering at the launch of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) at Talkatora Stadium in the national capital, PM Modi claimed that it took just one call for banks to lend crores of rupees to businessmen close to “one family”. “Four-five years back, a majority of funds with the banks were reserved only for those close to one family,” he said.

Guwahati, September 1: Justice Ranjan Gogoi is all set to take over as the new Chief Justice of India. Gogoi’s name has been recommended for the post by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra to the Government of India.

Justice Gogoi, who hails from Assam, will take oath on October 3. He is slated to retire on November 17, 2019.

Justice Gogoi was appointed a judge in the Gauhati High Court on February 28, 2001.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, September 1, 2018, launched a payments bank of the Department of Posts that will take banking to the doorstep of every citizen through an unmatched network of post offices and almost 3 lakh postmen and ‘Grameen Dak Sewaks’.

The India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) will be like any other banks but its operations will be on a smaller scale without involving any credit risk. It will carry out most banking operations like accepting deposits but won’t advance loans or issue credit cards.

Three District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans were injured in an IED blast triggered allegedly by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place at around 12:30 pm in Rabdipara village under Phulbagdi police station area when a team of the DRG staff was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a senior police official told PTI over phone.

New Delhi [India], Sep 01 (ANI): Fuel prices continued to rise on Saturday, with petrol and diesel prices touching a new record high in several metropolitan cities, including Delhi and Mumbai.

The price of petrol has been increased to Rs 78.68 perlitre in Delhi, against Rs. 78.52 on Friday, while diesel is being retailed at Rs. 70.42 per litre.

The rupee slumped to a fresh record low of 71 against the dollar for the first time ever by falling 26 paise on persistent demand for the US currency amid rising crude prices.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the local currency opened lower at 70.95 a dollar and slipped further to hit its lifetime low of 71 from its previous close of 70.74. Forex dealers said besides robust month-end demand for the American currency from oil importers, dollar’s strength against its rival currencies on expectations of rising interest rates amid lingering Sino-US trade tensions, weighed on the domestic currency.

A month after it announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be conducted online and twice a year from 2019, the government on Tuesday rolled back the decision. The exam will now be held in the pen-and-paper mode and not online. Earlier, the Indian Express had reported that the HRD Ministry’s keenness to put off any changes in the NEET’s conduct is influenced by the Health Ministry, which fears an online (read computer-based) test would put students from rural and economically poor families at a disadvantage.

The registration process for NEET 2019 will begin from November 1 and the exam will be held on May 5. However, the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) will be held twice a year.

Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik was on Tuesday appointed as the new governor of Jammu and Kashmir, said Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman. The appointment was approved by President Ram Nath Kovind. Lal ji Tandon will replace Malik as the Bihar Governor.

Among other changes, the President appointed Satyadev Narayan Arya as the Governor of Haryana and Baby Rani Maurya as the Governor of Uttarakhand. Ganga Prasad, the Governor of Meghalaya, has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Sikkim.
