IMPHAL | Oct 14 : The land areas of Sekmai assembly constituency including its hills which were approved by the Manipur State Darbar cannot be encroached while creating district boundaries of the newly created seven districts.

The stated resolution was taken today during a public meeting held at Sekmai Kangjeibung Ground community hall, organised by Sekmai Protection Committee (SPC) and Awang Sekmai Advance Women Society (ASAWS). It was organised to discuss the issues of the villagers whose lands are affected.

The meeting also resolved to give full support to the steps taken up by Manipur Valley Village Reserve Forest Rights Protection Association to safeguard the ancestral land of the valley people.

IMPHAL | Oct 14 : The six professors of Manipur University who were arrested during the police raid on the midnight of September 20 following an FIR lodged by professor, K. Yugindro were brought to hospital handcuffed for medical check-up, a press release by the JAC of MU community said.

The JAC vehemently condemned the act of equating and treating the teachers as if they were hard-core criminals and termed it as an inhuman act and an insulting to the profession.

In an emergency meeting of the JAC which comprised of MUSU, MUTA and MUSA, the members expressed extreme shock and anguish on hearing that the professors lodged in jail under false charges were taken to hospital in handcuffs.

IMPHAL | Oct 14 : Pan Meetei Convention informed that Meetei are a people made of seven clans or Salai Taret – Khuman, Luwang, Mangang, Angom, Moirang, Kha-nganba and Salang-Leishangthem who are the seven sons of Pakhangba, the son of God, Atiya Maru Sidaba, and they formed the Meetei some thousands of years ago.

In a statement addressed to The United Naga Council, The Zomi Council and The Hmar Inpui with reference to their representation to the union minister of State for Tribal, Jaswanthsinh Bhabor regarding inclusion of the Meetei in the list of scheduled Tribe, the Pan Meetei Convention further informed that after the independence, all the indigenous groups of the Northeast were included in the scheduled tribe list of the Indian Constitution except maybe the indigenous Meetei people.

The reason was, the Meetei were Hindu converts and the then Meitei leaders claimed that the Meetei were the descendants of Brabubahon son of Arjuna of the Pandava of the Hindu epic the Mahabharatta, it said. That was a travesty of the fact of Meetei being Hindu converts, it added.

JIRIBAM | Oct 11 : A minor girl was allegedly raped by her maternal uncle at his residence after the girl was taken from her house on the pretext of cooking food.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 12 noon of September 21, 2018 at Nunkhal village, a remote area of Jiribam district.

As per report of the victim’s mother, the accused is her younger brother who is a widower with three children. The victim’s mother stated that the accused had come to her house saying that he had to go for a work somewhere and requesting her daughter to stay at his house during his absence and prepare meals for his three children.

IMPHAL | Oct 11 : The proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party People’s War Group (Marxist Centre) has imposed a state wide total shut down from 6 am to 6 pm on October 15 by declaring it as the Black Day of Kangleipak.

A release signed by secretary, central media coordinator, comrade Lenin Meitei stated that after Manipur was defeated in the Anglo Manipur War, 1891 it was under the Colonial British rule till August 14, 1947 for 56 years. Manipur became independent again in the midnight of August 14, 1947, it said adding afterwards, Manipur State Assembly Election was held from 11 to 27 July, 1948 and the state was ruled under a democratic government from October 18, 1948.

IMPHAL | Oct 11 : In a landmark judgement on two PILs taken together, the High Court of Manipur has suspended pro vice-chancellor of the Manipur University, professor K. Yugindro and appointed former chief secretary, Jarnail Singh as the varsity’s administrator who is fully empowered to discharge the power of the vice-chancellor till order is restored in the university.

The direction of the high court said the order was given after considering the best interest of the students and present very disturbing situation in the university.

Earlier the court had notified its intent of interfering in the affairs and management of the university if the authority concerned failed to resolve the ongoing crisis in the university.

 Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) on Wednesday announced a ban on 15 years and older vehicles from plying on roads in Imphal city.
Announcing the ban, Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman L Radhakishore said that the state government took the decision considering the rising pollution levels in the capital city.
He appealed to all to abstain from buying vehicles older than 15 years while the state motor vehicle department has been asked to consult all concerned departments while issuing vehicle permits.

IMPHAL | Oct 9 : The Manipur High Court while upholding the decision of Manipur information commission (MIC), has directed MPSC to disclose the answers scripts of 82 selected candidates of MCSCC 2016, within 15 days to general public, said Keisham Kishan convenor of Group of aspirant MPSC.

He said the high court also came down heavily on the conduct of MPSC and imposed a fine of Rs. 5000 for deliberately trying to delay and drag the matter.

It may be mentioned that earlier, Manipur Information Commission on August 8 had directed the MPSC to show the photo copies of 82 selected candidates to the public by declaring that doing so was in public interest as the said MCSCC 2016 is full of illegalities and irregularities.

IMPHAL | Oct 9 : An emergency general body meeting of Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) which was held today resolved to take mass casual leave tomorrow as a part of the protest demanding the unconditional release and withdrawal of FIR lodged against the teachers, staff and students of the university.

The resolution was taken with the emergency general body meeting of MUTA held today at its office with professor I. Tomba Singh as president in the chair.

The meeting was discussed on the agenda of prevailing crisis of Manipur University and others. President of the chair also read out the proceedings of the emergency executive committee held yesterday.

IMPHAL | Oct 6 : The State Government of Manipur will hold dialogue with the All Tribal Student Union, Manipur (ATSUM), the Kuki Student Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) at 5 pm on October 7 (Sunday) in Imphal on the issues related to the university impasse raised by the tribal student bodies recently, according to sources.

The State Government has invited the tribal student organisations today for the talk.

Yesterday, the tribal student bodies had announced to impose a 5-day economic blockade in all the national highways under their jurisdictions from 5 am of October 9 if the their demands for the returning of normalcy in Manipur University is not met by October 8. The tribal student bodies also took another resolution to demand for a separate “Hill Central University”.

TAMENGLONG | Oct 6 : Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong, a local self- government of Autonomous District Council Tamenglong led by its chairman, Namsinrei Panmei has claimed that with the joining of two BJP elected members; the DAT government has now become stable in forming the local self- government.

In a new development, two BJP members of District Council Tamenglong has come forward to join and support the Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong ADC Tamenglong led by ADC Tamenglong chairman Namsinrei Panmei after prolonged fight in the high court.

A reception for the newly joint members was held here at ADC Tamenglong office complex. Church leaders joined the welcoming programme and prayed for the strong local self- government of ADC Tamenglong.

Fears of a possible outbreak of Typhoid epidemic gripped Manipur’s Moreh town in Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar after 25 confirmed cases were reported in various hospitals. While one case was reported at the PHC, 24 others were reported at Moreh Hospital.

According to the medical officer at Moreh hospital, Dr Kumar, the number of patients suffering from Typhoid has seen a rise with three to four cases brought to the hospital in just a week’s time. “We witnessed few cases of Typhoid since the end of September, but the numbers increased a lot in the past one week. We are still receiving patients having similar symptoms of Typhoid,” said the MO.
