IMPHAL | Jul 11 : Joint College Students’ Forum (JCSF) has declared that a total shutdown of all colleges affiliated to Manipur University (MU) will commence from July 12 onwards until the results for the third, fourth and sixth semester college examinations are declared.

A meeting of JCSF held today, resolved to launch the agitations after receiving no positive responses from the state government to its demands of resolving the present crisis at Manipur University, and declaration of the third, fourth and sixth semester college examinations, said a release. The students’ forum had submitted the memorandum of demands to the chief minister on July 7 demanding its execution within three days, it added.

CHURACHANDPUR | Jul 11 : Beneficiaries of new pond construction in Churachandpur under North Eastern Council (NEC) 2017-2018 schemes locked down the DFO office located at Tuibong today condemning the delay in release of funds under the scheme.

The beneficiaries put up posters outside the office of district fishery officer (DFO) office demanding to release the money for construction of new pond that had been already released on February 28 by NEC to the state government.  The posters says, ’how long you are going to hide the NEC funding for the poor fish farmers’ which is a question asked to the concerned DFO of Fishery department, Kh. Ibetombi Devi.

IMPHAL | Jul 11 : Second meeting between representatives of the government of Manipur and United Committee, Manipur (UCM) was held today at the chief minister’s secretariat in connection with the present controversy over the location of main Border Pillar (BP) 81 and related issues.

The meeting was held with chief minister N. Biren Singh in the chair.

Following an agreement reached with the Government of Manipur on the demands over MIL (tribal languages) teacher recruitment, the “indefinite hill area bandh” called by some tribal student bodies that started on July 6 has been “relaxed” temporarily since Saturday.

The bandh was imposed jointly by Thadou Student’s Association-General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ), Rongmei Naga Student’s Organisation (RNSO), and Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR).

However, the student bodies said they will resume the agitation if their “other demands” are not met by Tuesday next week.

JIRIBAM | Jul 8 : The hanging bridge over Barak River broke down when a truck loaded with sand tried to cross it at around 11:00 am the morning today.

Sources added that several vehicles are now stuck near the bridge and it might take two days to repair the broken bridge. Meanwhile light vehicles and two wheelers are allowed to cross the old bridge at Barak River.

IMPHAL | Jul 8 : Former director of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), M. Shyamo was arrested last Friday by a team of National Investigation Agencies (NIA) from New Delhi.

According to a reliable source the former director has been under NIA scanner since the last few days in connection with the ongoing investigation over the alleged raising of funds and supply of arms and ammunitions to outlawed, Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) militant group.

IMPHAL | Jul 8 : Joint Action Committee of All Manipur Rifleman (MR) Viva Voice Completed Candidate 2016 has called for 48 hours bandh from tonight as the concerned authorities have not met their ultimatum of result declaration before July 8.

President of JAC, Laitonjam Kirankumar Singh said that on July 1, the committee had urged the authority concerned to declare their on or before July 8 and also cautioned of imposing bandh if the demand is not fulfilled.

JIRIBAM, JULY 7, 2018 (DIPR): Forest and Environment Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar said agar oil extraction units will be set up at Jiribam, Tengnoupal (Moreh) and Kamjong (Ningthi village) districts.

Minister Th. Shyamkumar made the announcement at the launch of the agar plantation programme at the Lamtai Khunou, Jiribam district today at the programme organised by the State Forest Department. Around 3,200 numbers of agar seedlings were planted across 2 hectares of land.

Imphal, July 07, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh has stressed on the need to set up a medical research unit to study the reasons for prevalence of some particular ailments in the State.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of Shija Expands for Technology, Safety, Volume, Vision and Value System at the complex of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol in Imphal West District today.

The Chief Minister inaugurated MRI/CT machine, General Ward, Cath Laboratory, Dialysis Unit, Modular OT, Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) and Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) of the private hospital as part of the function.

JIRIBAM, JULY 7, 2018 (DIPR): MAHUD and Town Planning Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar today directed the illegal encroachers to vacate from the proposed land for the construction of the toilet complex of the Jiribam Ima market. The Minister today inspected the Jiribam Ima market complex which is under-construction.

Addressing media persons, Minister Th. Shyamkumar said that legal notice will be served to the illegal encroachers to vacate the encroached land within 7 days. He also said that the illegally encroached area earlier had a toilet complex which was part of the old market. The State Government is planning to construct a new toilet complex at the said location of the newly under-constructed Jiribam Ima market.

IMPHAL | Jul 7 : Chief minister, N. Biren Singh today said the issue of Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar No. 81 should be sorted out by discussing it at a proper forum as it is a matter involving two countries.

He said no Manipuri would want to lose any piece of land but no decision can be taken hastily as it is a very sensitive issue, he added.

There is nothing to panic as the state government is committed to facilitate solving the problem amicably, added the chief minister.

IMPHAL | Jul 6 : Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) warned that it will launch intensive agitation from mid-night of July 15, if the government fails to solve the ongoing issue surrounding Manipur University’s vice-chancellor.

Speaking to media persons today at its Sagolband office, the student body’s secretary general, Shital Oinam said it is very unfortunate that the government is keeping the career of the students in danger, in order to save the ‘irresponsible’ vice-chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey.
