Well-armed miscreants suspected to be Kuki militants allegedly kidnapped three employees of Shivalaya Construction Co Private Limited who were engaged in construction works of National Highway 2 (Tendongyang to North AOC) from their work site located at Sekmai Khwairakpam Kusong on the evening of November 29.

Following a complaint regarding the incident, a team of Imphal West police has launched a search operation in and around the surrounding areas of Sekmai river and the hills in the eastern side of Sekmai from yesterday evening. So far, the police team has been unable to trace the whereabouts of the victims.  

Due to last night’s incident and resulting fear, some of the labourers have left the work site and returned back to their native states.

“Detention of Kishorchandra under the draconian act, National Security Act (NSA) for using abusive language in social media is a total violation of human rights and misuse of power by authorities,” said E. Ranjita, wife of Kishorchandra.

Condemning the detention of ISTV former staff, Kishorchandra under NSA, locals of Keishamthong along with family members of Kishorchandra today staged a sit-in protest at Keishamthong.

Kishorchandra was arrested from his house on November 26, the next day after he was released on bail by the court for posting a video recording in which he abused the stance of chief minister, N. Biren regarding a function organised in commemoration of the Rani of Jhansi linking her with the freedom movement of Manipur.

Princess of Thailand Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrived in Imphal on Tuesday to attend the ongoing 10-day long Manipur Sangai Festival, 2018, the annual tourism festival of the state. The Princess was accorded a warm welcome at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport Imphal led by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on her maiden visit to the state.

PHED Minister Losii Dikho, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhalian, Chief Secretary, Manipur Dr J Suresh Babu, DGP L M Khaute and other high-level Government Officers, top police personnel were also present in the reception event at the airport tarmac.

A 14 years old boy died on the spot while 15 passengers including a Japanese couple sustained injury when a tourist bus they were travelling plunged into a deep gorge near Kangpokpi district headquarters this morning at around 11:20 am.

The Airbus bearing registration number MN01-1944 was heading towards Imphal from Dimapur with huge luggage of around 20 passengers before it plunged into the approximately 50 metres deep gorge in between Changoubung village and Kangpokpi DHQs along the National Highway-2.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh said that VISA facilitation office would be opened in Imphal shortly for issuing visas for more than 30 countries.

This was stated by him at the Indo Myanmar Sangai Business Summit 2018 held at Hotel Classic Grande, Imphal today. The Summit is organised by Act East Policy Committee, Government of Manipur in association with Business Excellence Group Manipur.

Speaking at the function, chief minister said that state government would provide land for the construction of guest house for the Myanmarese pilgrims who are visiting Bodh Gaya every year. He announced that to overcome trading problem of gas and petroleum products during bandhs and blockades, the ministry has initiated the survey for the construction of the fuel pipeline from Guwahati-Silchar- Imphal.

Imphal West police has arrested the kingpin involved in the fraudulent withdrawal of cash from various banks amounting to more than Rs 1 crore, from Pune, Maharashtra.

Superintendent of police, Imphal West, Jogeshchandra stated this during a press conference held today at his office conference hall located at police headquarter, Imphal.

He said recently on October 31, finance officer of Manipur University (MU) has reported to Singjamei Police station stating that some unknown persons or firm with the name of “Patel Real Estate” have fraudulently withdrawn cheques amounting to 94 lakhs from the Bank of Baroda, Canchipur, MU.

Defence minister, Nirmala Sitharaman will open this year’s Sangai Festival 2018 at Hapta Kangjeibung tomorrow.

Ahead of the grand opening of the biggest tourism festival of the State, chief minister, N. Biren Singh inspected the preparations going on at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West district, which is one of the festival venues today.

Speaking to media personnel, he said that this year’s Manipur Sangai Festival is going to create history because it is being planned to organise in three venues of both hill and valley districts viz. Imphal, Mao and Keibul Lamjao for the first time.

Manipur police has arrested the executive director M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd, a construction company based in Ghaziabad, in a case pertaining to fraudulent issuance of bank guarantee amounting to Rs 6,62,00,000 in connection with the temporary restoration of National Highway-137 (Tamenglong-Khongsang road).

Manish Chaudhary, 33, son of Dheeraj Chaudhary of Sarvodaya Naga, Pilkhuwa, Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by a team of the Imphal West police on November 11 from UP and was remanded in police custody.

On August 6, 2015, M/S Woodhill Infrastructure Ltd was awarded the contract for temporary restoration of a 40-km stretch of the NH-137 after successful bidding. Subsequently, the Ministry directed the company to submit the relevant documents, including bank guarantee to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the implementing agency, for signing the contract.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh opened the National School Games in Fencing for Under-14 and 17 years (boys and girls) at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal Tuesday. A total of 730 players representing 19 teams including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, CBSE Welfare Sports Organisation, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Indian Public School Conference (IPSC), Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Vidya Bharathi, International Board School Sports Organisation and Manipur are taking part in the five-day long competition, which will come to an end on November 17.

The ceremony began with the Chief Minister declaring the Games open, which was followed by march-past of participating teams and cultural presentations. The competition is being organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur under the aegis of National School Games Federation of India.

Imphal, November 10, 2018 (DIPR): Forest and Environment Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar today informed that the migratory bird Amur Falcon which was satellite tagged and named ‘Manipur’ at Tamenglong district has been killed by unknown miscreants at Kebuching bordering Tamenglong and Noney districts. Saddened over the incident, he said cancellation of gun licence (air guns) will be discussed in the Cabinet meet soon.

On 4th November, 2018, a team of officials led by Dr Suresh Kumar of Wildlife Institute of India, Forest Department Tamenglong including DFO Arun RS and Peter, Raptor Biologists from Hungary captured five Amur Falcons using canopy mist-nets at a community forests area of Chiuluan village along the Barak river in Tamenglong district.

Imphal, November 08, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh feted the staff of Manipur State Transport (MST) on being conferred the ‘Commendable Initiative’ award to the State Transport Department by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in the category of the Best City Bus Service Project.

The honour was given for the re-introduction and efficient operation of public transport in the State with the revival of Manipur State Transport (MST). Observation of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which was mentioned on the commendation certificate of the award, was that the MST project had marked a beginning of efficient private partnership in the hills for operation of affordable inter and intra city bus services. It is also providing a cheaper alternative to the relatively expensive services provided by private operators. The project has also potential to relieve traffic congestion.

NemchaKipgengraced the 7th Foundation Day of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) organised under the theme “Revisiting and Exploring more for Justice to Children,” held today at its office complex, North AOC, Imphal.

Addressing the gatherings as Chief Guest, Minister Nemcha highlighted the importance of the commission in protecting, promoting, constant monitoring of the basic fundamental rights of the child, generating mass awareness regarding child rights laws and many more welfare programs and activities for the children of the state.
