District and Session Judge Imphal West has reserved the conviction order of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth murder case till April 12 and the Court also issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest today against the accused Thokchom Nando Singh alias Nanao, 34, son of Th. Subol Singh of Khangabok Part-III Lamlong Bazar.
The move came after Nando escaped from JNIMS Ortho Ward on the intervening night of March 25 and 26.
The conviction order in connection with the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth during November 2003 was supposed to be announced on Saturday but due to the sudden escape of the main accused, Nando from JNIMS and prayer of CBI counsel Sr. Advocate, H. Chandrajit Sharma for issuing non-bailable warrant of arrest against the accused in present of co-accused, Letkhosie Haokip alias James Kuki and Rame Mietei, the Court has extended date of conviction order of the case till April, 12 next month and directed to produce the accused persons on April 12.
In the meantime, Imphal East District Police as a part of manhunt of the escaped accused Th. Nando arrested 10 persons on March 27 including two females on alleged charge of performing prejudicial activities during the medical treatment of Th. Nando at JNIMS hospital.
Arrested persons were identified as Aheibam Rameshwor Singh, 53 son of late A. Yaima Singh of Moidangpok Maning Leikai; Yumnam Rajesh Singh, 53 son of late Y. Raghumani Singh of Sagolband Meino Leirak; Hungyo Rockson, 45 son of late Hungyo Samion of Nambashi Khullen, Kasom Kullen; Leinlalzom Singson, 33 son of late George of B. Vengnom Churchandpur; Khangembam Naobi Singh, 30, son of Kh. Deben Singh of Thoubal Athokpam Mayai Leikai; W. Washington Sieyo, 29 son of M. Kothou of Youngkhul village, Chandel; Thangsha Mekham, 27 son of Thangsha Angkha of Leibi Village Chandel; Irom Abe Devi, 31 wife of I. Naobicha of Phundongbam Mayai Leikai and Khunjamayum Anjali Devi, 28 wife of Kh. Kesho Singh of Sagolmang.
All arrested person were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East by the Police and Court remanded them into police custody for a period of seven days till April, 4 besides, two arrested females were taken formal arrest by the Porompat PS from the court in connection with another FIR case and taken into their custody from the court till April 2.
It may be mentioned that, Under Trial Prisoner, Th. Nano Alias Nanao escaped from the JNIMS Ortho Ward Bed No.9 on the intervening night of March, 25 and March 26. He has been receiving treatment for his spinal code injuries since November 26 last year at the said hospital following an order from the District and Session Judge Imphal West issued on October, 10 last year.
The police have been on active manhunt for escaped Th. Nando and Government also recently announced him a wanted criminal soon after his escape from the hospital.
