Manipur | TAMENGLONG| Apr 3
All services under Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Tamenglong including broadband, mobile networks and even landlines have been shut down from the night of April 2.
While the people of Tamenglong has criticised BSNL for the shutdown terming the service provider has been reduced to a “Mere Joke,” IFP went to the BSNL telephone ex-change, Tamenglong for enquiries only to find that only linesmen were present in the station which is located near DC Office, Tamenglong.
Replying to a query, they said that the shutdown of services was due to a fault at Oinamlong BTS while adding that the shutdown of BSNL services had already been reported to higher authority concerned. They also stated that for further information, one may call up SDE of Tamenglong Telephone Ex-change, Tomba Meitei who is presently staying presently at Imphal.
When IFP contacted Tomba Meitei, he stated that he is sorry that the people of the State had to endure such inconveniences while reiterating that the reason was due to the shutting down of the repeater station at Oinamlong. Electric HT line damage due to felling of trees and Generator is also down due to continuous running, he added.
In the meantime, local editor of Gaanphiu Mail, Tamenglong, Ringbam Kamei stated that most of the local news houses purely solely depended on broad band services.
“There are no other sources to collect news in a remote district like Tamenglong district,” he said while appealing the authority concerned to restore services at the earliest.
Ringbam Kamei also mentioned that even before BSNL Tamenglong has shut down its services, there have been frequent interruptions in its network and even shut down of services of its network after 10:00 pm which had caused severe inconveniences and damages to the functioning of media houses in Tamenglong.
