Amidst the ongoing task carried out by the administrator of Manipur University, Jarnial Singh to bring a better atmosphere at the varsity post Pandey period, a scam seems to be merging. It is cantered around the selection of Ph.D candidates recently conducted at Teacher Education Department.
Investigations have revealed that the person who was selected in Sl. No. 2 namely, Khuraijam Dineshchandra Singh who had failed to submit his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government, being an in service candidate was exempted from appearing in the written test.
This is not valid without the NOC, since the marks he is supposed to have obtained in the written test is aided in full to the final score as academic credit, it is akin to cheating at the highest entry level of students in the University and is akin to a scam.
Also revealed was that fact that all the seven examiners of the interview of PhD entrance, three from MU and four from DMTE(DM Teacher Education) have kept their score sheets at home for 10 days since the selection procedures began before the results were finally declared on the 16th of this month delayed by about a week.
Suspicions exist as the examiners have ample time to alter the marks at home and at leisure. Technically, the day’s score sheets ought to have been deposited with the University’s Examination Department but instead, it was kept in their respective homes.
Speaking to IFP, Koijam Sobita who is currently holding in-charge as the Head of Department of the department of Teacher Education admitted to the fact that the examiners carry their daily score sheets home. And as regards to the delay in the announcement of the results, she said there were complaints from M.Ed student who have been waiting for the results. There were plans to declare the result but the recent shut down in Manipur due to issues of CAB further delayed the results.
The question now is what kind of action would be contemplated against the erring officials of the department. An enquiry is however warranted in any case and if the fraud is detected then it would be prudent on the side of the administrator to cancel the entire process of selection and order a retest.
