UKHRUL | Jul 6: MLA of 44-Ukhrul assembly constituency, Alfred Kanngam Arthur visited Ukhrul District Hospital at Hungpung and interacted with medical officers and staffs of the hospital and Hungpung villagers.
He expressed to this correspondent that he has already conveyed to the Health minister to give all necessary equipment for a full fledged blood bank. He stated that a blood bank facility is a must for any hospital. It is learnt that the Blood Bank Refrigerator has been lying unused for more than two years and the machine is yet to be installed and there is no technician or expert to operate it.
While interacting with medical officers and staffs of Ukhrul District Hospital along with villagers from Hungpung, Alfred Kanngam Arthur categorically stated that the community should support and nurture the hospital. He also acknowledged the lack of specialist and other technicians, and promised to do whatever he can in his capacity as an MLA. He stated that there is no health care in Ukhrul district. Almost everyone has to come down to Imphal for further treatment, he said. He stated that basic fundamental health care is a compulsory for the people of Ukhrul district.
He encouraged the doctors and nurses to give their best services always keeping the sense of humanity at the backdrop. He lauded the initiative of KRSNAA Diagnostics for providing free diagnosis of 53 tests at the hospital. The KRSNAA Diagnostics centre will be functional 24×7, stated Senior Officer of KRSNAA Ukhrul and urged the people to come forward and avail the facilities.
Alfred Kanngam Arthur provided three sets of sofa seat, colour TV and coffee machine for the on-call room. An on-call room, is a room in a Hospital with either a couch or a bunkbed intended for staff to rest in while they are on call or due to be.
The pharmacy at Ukhrul District Hospital will provide available medicine for free. And the hospital has also introduced a shelf with Prathan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pari Yojana (PMBJP), under this scheme, the medicine will be available at an affordable price informed Dr. Yuithingla Luikham.
It is worth mentioning that Ukhrul District Hospital is functioning without X-ray machine. There is no radiographer at present and NHM staff is being utilised temporary to do everyday duty. There is shortage of Grade IV and staff nurses as some of them have retired and are going to retire soon. The Hospital is functioning without sweeper and chowkidar.
Later, Alfred Kanngam Arthur visited and interacted with the patients at male ward, female ward and isolation ward and extended monetary assistance to 12 patients. Some of the patients were undergoing treatment from Scrub Typhus, Hepatitis B and Diarrhea.
