DIMAPUR, MARCH 29 (MExN): Recognizing the services rendered to the conservation and protection of biodiversity in Nagaland by Alemba Yimchunger, a Forest Guard at Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, Kiphire, an NGO called Earth Day Network USA has declared him as ‘Earth Day Network Star.’

Earth Day Network USA is an international environmental NGO that engages with over 50,000 organizations in some 195 countries and Earth Day Network Star award is considered a prestigious recognition of those who do excellent work in the environmental field.

A press note received from M Lokeswara Rao, retired PCCF & HOFF, Nagaland and presently Director, Protect Our Species, Earth Day Network said Alemba Yimchunger, who has over 30 years of service with the forest department, was instrumental in the protection of forests and wild animals in his area.

His passion, perseverance, dedication and commitment have been outstanding. He knows the sanctuary area in-and-out, the press note added.
Congratulating Alemba Yimchunger for his outstanding work to conserve biodiversity in and around Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, Karuna Singh, Country Director, Earth Day Network, India and Director M. Lokeswara Rao said, “Seeing Alemba’s tireless efforts to protect our species, we are confident he will widen awareness about the need to conserve our precious biodiversity in even more villages of Nagaland.’’

Earth Day Network grew out of the first Earth Day (April 22, 1970). Its mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Year 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and of Earth Day Network.
