22 quakes hit NE in past one year

 GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - During the past one year, 22 earthquakes of various magnitudes occurred in the northeastern region and its neighbours Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. During the past one month, two earthquakes rocked the region and during the past one week, there occurred one earthquake in this region, according to the website Earthquake Track that has quoted the United States Geological Survey seismic data.

This week, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake with its epicentre in Barpeta district rocked the region and its neighbours. During the current month, another earthquake of 5.3 magnitude with its epicentre at Sapatgram in Kokrajhar district rocked the region and its neighbours.

The Barpeta district earthquake had the depth of its focus as 10 km below the earth’s surface. The Sapatgram earthquake also had the same depth, while the Wangjing, Manipur earthquake of 4.5 magnitude that occurred about a month back had the depth of 85 km, the 3.9 magnitude Nongstoin, Meghalaya earthquake, also occurring about a month back, had the depth of 10 km.

The 3.8 magnitude earthquake at Panbang, Shemgang, Bhutan, which occurred about two months back, had the depth of 10 km, the 4.4 magnitude earthquake in Churachandpur, Manipur, which occurred about three months back, had the depth of 55 km, the 4.5 magnitude earthquake of Wangjing, Manipur, also occurring three months back, had the depth of 65 km, the 4.4 magnitude earthquake at Mangan, Sikkim, occurring three months back, had the depth of 50 km, the 4.9 magnitude earthquake at Dhing, which occurred four months back, had the depth of 10 km, and the 5.2 magnitude earthquake at Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh, which occurred four months back, had the depth of 42 km.

The 4.3 magnitude Phek, Manipur earthquake, which occurred five months back, had the depth of 145 km. The 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred at Myitkyina, Kachin, Myanmar, six months back, had the depth of 10 km. Seven months back, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at Churachandpur in Manipur from a depth of 48 km.

Eight months back, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at Gauripur, Assam, from a depth of 10 km. The 4.5 magnitude Phek, Manipur earthquake that occurred eight months back had the depth of 93 km. Nine months back, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake with epicentre at Wangjing, Manipur occurred from a depth of 22 km. The 4.7 magnitude Khonsa, Arunachal Pradesh earthquake, about nine months back, had the depth of 79 km. The 4.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred nine months back at Dhemaji in Assam, had the depth of 16 km.

Ten months back, the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred at Nongstoin, Meghalaya, had the depth of 10 km. The 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred ten months back at Along in Arunachal Pradesh had the depth of 8 km. The 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred at Habiganj, Sylhet in Bangladesh one month back had the depth of 29 km. The Phek, Manipur, earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5, which occurred 12 months back, had the depth of 74 km.

About a year back, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurring at Phek, in Manipur, had the depth of 82 km, while the 4.1 magnitude Tura, Meghalaya earthquake had the depth of 36 km, the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred at Zunheboto in Nagaland had the depth of 62 km, the 5.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred at Churachandpur in Manipur had the depth of 53 km, the 4.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh had the depth of 23 km, the 4.7 magnitude Wangjing, Manipur earthquake had the depth of 82 km, the 4.6 magnitude Thoubal, Manipur earthquake had the depth of 22 km, the 4.1 magnitude Wangjing, Manipur earthquake had the depth of 107 km, the website said.
