Heirok assembly constituency has many poor people. Before the next legislative assembly elections, 400 homes will be constructed for the poor families of Heirok assembly constituency through local area development fund.
Education, labour and employment minister, Th. Radheshyam who is also the MLA of the assembly constituency made the statement as a chief at a programme held at the community hall of Shikhong Khunou, Heirok assembly constituency.
The programme was organised to hand out GI sheets, sewing machines and rice to minority Muslims and scheduled tribes.
At the programme organised by Minority Morcha and Minority ST, Heirok BJP Mandal, minster, Th Radheshyam Singh attended as the chief guest, president, BJP Heirok Mandal, Th Chourajit Singh as president while up-adhyaksha, Thoubal zilla parishad, T Nungsi Singh and social worker, Md Tayeb Ali attended as the guests of honour.
“Minister further said that Heirok is relatively poor compared to other assembly constituencies, during election campaign we came across many households which do not have proper house, toilet and many without income,” he said.
After witnessing such conditions, a plan was made to build houses for the homeless, repair houses for the needy and to remove poverty from the assembly constituency, he informed.
As per the plan, 38 houses have been constructed and 15 other are under construction, he further informed adding a total of 400 houses will be constructed before the next legislative assembly elections.
Stressing the need for better educational institutions, he assured that Shikhong khunou Primary school will be repaired and plans will be made to upgrade the school up to class VIII. He further assured that he will initiate discussions with the social welfare minister to increase the number of Anganwadi centres.
It may be mentioned that 34 households from six minority villages were distributed with 3 belts of tin sheets each, 59 seeing machines and 20 rice bags.
