4 trekkers rescued from Dzukou

KOHIMA, JUNE 8 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Home Department and the DDMA Kohima led another operation to Dzukou late last night (7th June 2018) to rescue four stranded tourists.

A press note from the NSDMA informed that the information of four stranded tourists from Assam was received at 6:40pm on June 7. The DDMA Kohima swung into action and an SDRF team comprising 8 personnels along with a Platoon Commander was activated. The Emergency response team obtained the geo coordinates and also prepared a 3D map which enabled the Rescue operation team to locate the exact position of the stranded tourist.

On June 8 midnight the rescue team spotted the stranded tourist by using flash light signals. They were finally rescued at 12:15am and brought to the SDRF Kohima camp. The tourists were four students from Golaghat Commerce College namely Arpan Saikia 22, Sonu Das 23, Himanshu Dutta 22 and Rahul Dhar 23. They had entered Dzukou from Vizwema entry point and were returning towards Jakhama entry point when an overflowing river prevented them from crossing to the other side.

The NSDMA emphasised on the importance of taking all precautions during treks to Dzukou as heavy monsoon has begun and advised trekkers to pay heed to weather reports, take local guides and plan their trek accordingly.
