IMPHAL | May 18 : Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar was today sworn in as the 5th Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur. Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath of office to Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar at a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Imphal. Justice R. Sudhakar was appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur by the President of India on May 9, 2018.

A Boeing 737 plane crashed on Friday shortly after taking off from Havana’s main airport, Cuban state-run media reported, adding that it was not yet known if there were any casualties. The plane was a domestic flight going to Holguin, carrying 104 passengers, state-run TV said.

“It crashed between the locality of Boyeros and the village of Santiago de La Vegas”, state-run TV said in its midday news broadcast, referring to an area some 20 km south of Havana.

Muri Linggi, a 40-year-old resident of Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district, has earned the distinction of becoming the third woman from Arunachal Pradesh to scale Mount Everest, after Tine Mena and Anshu Jamsenpa.

Linggi, a mother of four girls, scaled the world’s highest peak at 8 am on May 14, an official report of the district administration said. Congratulating Linggi on her feat, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said she has made the state proud.

UKHRUL | May 17 : Ardent Foundation (DSIR-SIRO) organized a science exhibition programme titled “Science Awareness Mela amongst the Tribal Communities in Manipur” at Rising Model School, Phungyar on May 17.

The exhibition programme which was sponsored by department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, witnessed the participation of all government schools and private schools from Phungyar headquarter.

Imphal, May 17 (IANS) The Congress leaders in Meghalaya and Manipur said on Thursday that they will stake claim for formation of government in the two states since the party had emerged as the single largest party in the recent elections.

The Congress leaders said that since the BJP which had become the single largest party in Karnataka was allowed to form the government the same should not be denied to the Congress.

IMPHAL | May 17 : Manipur Congress legislature leader and former chief minister, Okram Ibobi Singh led delegation will meet Manipur governor on Friday morning to stake claim to form the government in Manipur.

Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Manipur has sought for appointment to meet the governor of Manipur, Jagdish Mukhi.

“We will explain how the Congress party was denied to form the government despite being the largest party while putting forward the present development in Karnataka,” “We will stake claim,” said Okram Ibobi Singh.

Former Manipur Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh has sought an appointment with the Manipur Governor on Friday to demand the dissolution of the present government based on the developments which has taken place in Karnataka. Speaking to The Indian Express, Singh said that the Governor should dissolve the present coalition government in Manipur, and invite the Congress, which was the single largest party in the 2017 assembly election.

New Delhi:  Stung by the developments in Karnataka, the Congress is preparing to make a point in at least three other states where it missed a shot at power after falling short of numbers - Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya.  Its ally in Bihar, Lalu Yadav's party RJD, has the same idea.

Crimes against minors is on a steep rise in Assam. In a shocking incident, yet another minor was allegedly raped in Assam.

This latest incident has been reported from Assam’s Goalpara district, where a 10-year old minor was allegedly raped by Bikash Chakraborty. Chakraborty allegedly raping the minor girl, locked her inside a room.
