IMPHAL | Jul 3 : The special judge, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND and PS) has remanded the Chandel, ADC chairman and other seven individuals to judicial custody for fifteen days, in connection with the recent infamous drug haul case.
The accused ADC chairman is identified as Lhukhosei Zou and the other seven associate are identified as M. Lawrence Zou, 50, son of Lungin Zou of Lamlongei Mantripukri, Jamkhohao, 28, son of Jamthong of Moreh, Minlal Mate, 22, son of Jamthang Mate of Moreh, Thangminlun Zou, 30, son of Chinsuanlam Zou of Lunmual Village, Teresa alias Nengboi Ngaite, 54, wife of late Langlenkhup Ngaite, Ester Vungheinuam alias Esther, 22, wife of Paopu Nagihte and Mung Zou alias Aric, 19, son of Ginsamum both from Moreh.
They were arrested by Narcotics Affairs and Border (NAB) on June 19 and 20 from different parts of Imphal areas during an extensive operation as per the inputs from their reliable source for involving in trafficking of contraband drugs imported from Myanmar for selling to outside states.
From their possession, NAB has apprehended heroine powder (no. 4) weighing 4.595 kilograms and world is yours (WY) amphetamine tablets weighing 28 kilogram worth over Rs. 27 crore in the international market along with a cash of Rs. 57,18,000.
Eight of them were produced before the court with a prayer of remanding them to judicial custody for further investigation of the case today as there police remands ended today and there bail application which was filed earlier was also heard.
The defence counsels of the eight accused, prayed before the court to release them on bail.
The investigation officer (IO) through special public prosecutor has also submitted the bail objection prayer stating that the case is in initial stage and releasing them on bail may hamper the smooth investigation of the case and one of their business associates is still at large.
After hearing from both the parties, the court has rejected the bail prayer and has remanded the eight accused to judicial custody as prayed by the IO of the case.
Large numbers of supporters and the family members of the ADC chairman and some VIPs found gather at Lamphel Court on getting information that he along with other associate will be produced before the said court.
The ADC chairman was from the BJP party, but later after his arrest with the drugs, he was removed from the party’s membership.
