Guwahati, July 2: In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old man, reportedly from Assam, has been tied to an electric pole and thrashed by the locals of Doddenakundi, Bengaluru over suspicion of being a child-lifter, as per reports.
As per media reports, the man has been identified as Chandrakumar and has been mentioned as a resident of Assam. The victim was later rescued by the police.
According to reports, Chandrakumar was roaming “suspiciously” by the locals and one couple also alleged that he tried to abduct their child. According to police, he was roaming near the Doddenakundu government school when the incident took place.
Police also mentioned that Chandrakumar was a small-time drug peddler who sold marijuana, according to media reports. He has been booked under the NDPS Act and has been sent to judicial custody, as per reports.
More than 20 people across the country have been lynched on the basis of a fake WhatsApp message about child lifting.
On June 8, two promising youths of Guwahati – Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath – were mercilessly lynched to death by a mob in Karbi Anglong over suspicion of being child-lifters. This incident sent shockwaves across the country and abroad forcing the Assam government to launch an awareness drive against the superstitions and fake news.
It may be mentioned, in Tripura Kishan Das, a government employee was attacked by a mob on Sunday at Manu in Dhalai district over suspicion of being a child-lifter. He is undergoing treatment at the Agartala Government Medical College.
