UKHRUL | Jul 3 : MLA of Chingai assembly constituency, Khashim Vashum laid the foundation stone of Talui police station, Ukhrul district, today.
In his speech, Khashim informed that Talui police station has been specifically set up to protect National Highway 102A. He expressed gratitude to the chief minister for allowing in materialising it within a short span of time. The construction of the police station will surely benefit the people, he remarked.
The proposed Talui police station will be set up at the site of the existing inspection bungalow or locally known as Parao of Talui village.
The British had identified that place as an inspection bungalow during their time. Village elders informed that Maj. Sharma of CRPF was the first army to visit in the village on 1968 in the month of February, when the villagers were celebrating Luira Phanit and established a post Parao and was manned by Captain Sathi. In 1970-71, four Assam Rifles took over the said post from CRPF under Subedar L. Sareo as the post commander. Later on BRTF has been using it as a temporary rest camp for its workers.
Former village secretary, Luiyo Mungvi informed that the said guest house was never completed and never utilised by the villagers
The existing guest house which was constructed way back in 1997-98 will be demolished for construction of the police station. The said project would be taken up under Manipur Police Housing and will displace eight families due to expansion of the required space. It is learnt that an agreement has been brought between the families and district administration. However, compensation is yet to be paid.
The foundation stone laying programme was attended by executive members of ADC Ukhrul, Mashungngam SP, Khayinghor Valui, Kapangpam Zimik, deputy commissioner of Ukhrul, Harmit Singh Pahuja, SP of Ukhrul, Worngam Ningshen, hereditary headman of Talui village, S.
