Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will lead a delegation of his Cabinet colleague on Friday afternoon to apprise the Centre on the need to lift the ban of coal mining in Meghalaya. This was informed by senior minister, Prestone Tynsong after the Cabinet meeting today.
“The delegation led by Chief Minister will go to Delhi to again knock the door of the Centre on the ban of coal mining. Besides meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the delegation will also meet senior officials of different line Ministry to deliberate on the issue,” Tynsong said.
Informing that the present Government has decided to pursue with the resolution adopted by the House in the year 2015, he said that Chief Minister will also give a statement on the floor of the House during the current Budget Session on this very important matter.
Talking about the status of this ban of coal mining, the senior Minister informed that the ban of coal mining is pending with the NGT, Centre and Supreme Court.
He also said that the NGT in its order had stated that the State Government should go to the Centre to get the exemption and then come back to the tribunal.
