Contraband drugs worth about Rs 2 crore were seized by the Assam Rifles in Manipur, according to the office of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles, South Sector (IGAR-S). A person transporting the banned goods was subsequently apprehended.
According to the IGAR-S, the Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized 40,000 number of WY tablets worth about Rs 2 crore from one L D Shokhokhai (36). The goods were found carrying in the dash board and gear box of the vehicle.
The apprehended person, identified as L D Shokhokhai, along with the recovered item was handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Imphal, AR officials said.
In another incident, the Tengnoupal Battalion, 26 Sector Assam Rifles also apprehended one gold smuggler carrying eight gold biscuits weighing 1.33 kg worth approximately Rs 39.9 lakhs at PVCP, Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district today. The smuggler was identified as MdMuhammuddin (65). The recovered gold biscuits along with the apprehended person were handed over to DRI, Imphal.
