Cops rescue 5 women from Kondhwa spa, including 2 from Northeast

PUNE: Late on Friday night, the Kondhwa police raided a Thai spa located in a mall and rescued five women, who were forced into flesh trade. Three of the women are from Thailand while the other two hail from northeast India. The police have arrested the spa operator and booked another person in the case.

A team comprising senior inspector Milind Gaikwad, sub-inspector Priya Tilekar and a few constables, raided the spa located on the second floor of the mall on NIBM — Undri road in Kondhwa at around
11pm on Friday.

The police rescued three women from Thailand, all are aged between 35 and 40 years. The team also rescued a 30-year-old woman from Mizoram and a 28-year-old
women from Nagaland.

“We have arrested Petekhiv Pamai (37), a woman from Nagaland, for managing the affairs of the spa and forcing the women into flesh trade,” said Gaikwad.

The Kondhwa police received a tip off about some women being forced into the flesh trade racket and raided the spa after sending a decoy customer.

Gaikwad said, “The women from Thailand arrived in India on business visas about two months ago and joined the spa.” Police suspect that the women reached Pune with the help of an agent. The women from Mizoram and Nagaland were promised good jobs in the city but were forced into prostitution, Gaikwad said.

As of now, the investigators are questioning Pamai to know how the women from Thailand reached India. Meanwhile, the five women have been sent to the observation home.
