IMPHAL | Jul 6 : Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) warned that it will launch intensive agitation from mid-night of July 15, if the government fails to solve the ongoing issue surrounding Manipur University’s vice-chancellor.
Speaking to media persons today at its Sagolband office, the student body’s secretary general, Shital Oinam said it is very unfortunate that the government is keeping the career of the students in danger, in order to save the ‘irresponsible’ vice-chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey.
He said DESAM strongly condemned the stubborn act of HRD minister of not giving a single reply to the voice of the students, teachers and staffs of the university. “Such act clearly shows that the Centre does not consider Manipur as a part of the country,” he added.
The agitation taken up by MUSU (Manipur University Students’ Union), MUTA (Manipur University Teachers’ Association) and MUSA (Manipur University Staffs’ Association) is appropriate and it will help in saving the university of the state from the evil deeds of the vice-chancellor, he added.
Stating that if the agitation continues due to the stubbornness of the government, the future of the students, who are considered as the pillar of future, will be totally hampered, Shital said DESAM will not remain silent over the issue and will take up necessary steps in the interest of the student’s community.
The secretary general said in connection with the ongoing issue of the university and effect to the student’s community, DESAM is holding a joint consultative meeting on July 9 and appealed all the student bodies of the state to take part in the said meeting.
DESAM urged to the state government to pressure the Centre at the earliest to bring a solution to the issue, though it is late.
