IMPHAL | Sept 25 : In one of the biggest hauls, a combined team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Senapati Police and Thoubal police Seized a massive amount of drugs worth Rs.14,49,60,000 and Sandalwood worth Rs.2,55,00,000 on September 19.
30, 000 tablets of WY, 4832 bottles of Ketamine having 30 ml each and amounting to 144.96 litres, 1703.86 kilos of red Sandalwood and Rs.47,000 were seized, said a release from Police (PRO).
One Hyundai Getz car bearing registration No MN01K/9026 and one Alto car silky silver bearing registration no. AS01BF/2183 along with several incriminating articles were also seized, it said. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure, thee release informed.
They have been identified as Phundreimayum Abdul Hadee, 31, son of (L) Md. Abdul Gaffar Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai; Md. Sanawar Ali, 19, son of Md. Anwar Ali of Kyamgei Konyaithabi and Md. Imran Khan alias Ibungo, 32, son of Md Sahabuddin of Kyamgei Mayai Leikai, it further informed.
The seized Ketamine are packed in vials of 30 ml each. These have been mass produced in injectable form by errant pharmaceutical companies, it stated. The drug lords of Manipur supply them to Burma and further to South East Asia in the international Ketamine Smuggling rackets, it continued.
The odourless and tasteless drug is also notoriously known as the ‘Date Rape Drug’ as it is often used by sex offenders to drug their victims who are mostly unsuspecting women and partygoers, the release further informed.
The drug is said to cost around Rs.1 lakh per litre at domestic black market and goes up to a whooping Rs.1 crore per litre at the international market costing Rs. 14,49,60,000, it stated.
The release further informed that the seized red Sandalwood is worth around Rs.2,55,00,000 at the international market. The seized red Sandalwoods have been handed over to the district forest officer, Thoubal for further necessary legal action on September 20, it said.
A case has been registered at Narcotics and Affairs of Border Police Station on September 20 and investigation is going on to look up on the bigger kingpins in this international racket, it added.~IFP
