IMPHAL | Aug 5 : An emergency joint meeting of the executive members of Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA), Manipur University Staff Association (MUSA) and Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) was convened at the office of MUTA on August 5 to deliberate the details of the discussion MUSU had with the chief minister of Manipur.
A release stated the members of the team from MUSU who met the chief minister earlier in the day apprised the meeting on what transpired in the discussion with the CM. The members of MUSU were both surprised and disappointed to find the presence of some other members during the interaction as their presence were not informed in prior by the office of the CM, it added.
The MU Bodies, in its release, further stated that after sharing the prevailing views on the key issues, MUSU had intimidated the chief minister that any future interaction should be in the presence of all the three constituents of the Varsity Community.
The meeting further took the resolution to request the chief minister to invite all three constituent units simultaneously for any meeting in the future for discussion on the present MU crisis, it added.
It was also resolved that prior information must be given regarding every invitation to any meeting with the CM as to the persons who will be attending the meeting, the release said while adding that if was further resolved to reaffirm the demand for institution of an Independent High Power Committee under the Commission of Enquiry Act 1952 to look into the charges of the irregularities committed by Professor, AP Pandey as VC of MU.
The joint meeting further resolved to reiterate the demand for the removal of the present VC, AP Pandey, it informed. It also resolved to appeal Prof. W Vishwanath Sign that he can assume the charge of VC only if he could fulfil the pre-conditions placed before him by the constituent units of MU and only after the institution of an enquiry under the Commission of Enquiry Act 1952, it said.
The sixth and final resolution taken at the meeting resolved to launch an Indefinite Hunger Strike with effect from the afternoon of August 10, the release added.~IFP
