IMPHAL | Jul 26 : In a major haul, approximately four lakhs of WY tablets were seized from four state police commandos who were arrested by Assam police on July 22.
The accused were taken out on bail by officials of Jiribam police today and relieved to their respective posts from the police station. It is said that the commandos who were attached to Jiribam police station, were caught red handed.
Sources said the arrest was made after a report was submitted by one Kartik Deb from Jirighat. As per the report, the four commando stopped him at Lalpani area of Cachar district, Assam while he was coming back home in a car from Silchar. The four commandos forced him to carry a bag in his car and allegedly slapped him.
Kartik followed their orders and took the bag out of fear, however, he drove directly to Jirighat police station and reported about the incident by handing over the bag to the police station. Afterwards, the team of four commandos were apprehended by the Assam Police from Jirighat Check post as they came in a gypsy bearing registration number MN – 01W-3491.
The four has been identified as Arun Singh, 37, constable no. 090891 from Kakching district, Hawaldar Rajiv Singh, 32, from Kakching district, S. Basanta Singh, 29, rifleman no. 0770090 from Thoubal district, Y. Nanda Kumar Singh, 34, constable no. 0908399 from Thoubal district. They were released on bail and were relieved from the police station to their respective police stations afterwards. It is said that the state police is yet to take up a police case against the four accused.
