Four more MU professors suspended

IMPHAL | Oct 1 : Four more professors of the Manipur University were suspended on ground of misconduct by separate orders dated September 29 signed by registrar (in-charge) M. Shyamkesho Singh.

The suspended professors are Amar Yumnam department of economics, M. Ranjit Singh department of mathematics, Ng. Nimai Singh department of physics and N. Debananda Singh department of bio-chemistry.

According to the orders which circulated today, the professors were suspended in exercise of the power conferred under Statute 27 of the Manipur University Act 2005 and Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (classification, control and appeal) Rules 1965.

The orders also mentioned that during the period of suspension, the headquarters of the professors shall be Imphal and they shall not leave the said headquarters without obtaining permission of the competent authority.

So far, the 10 professors of the Manipur University were suspended in connection with the crisis of the university.

In the meantime, Manipur University’s girl hostellers have suspended their hunger strike today following assurance to release arrested teachers and students of the varsity by pro vice-chancellor, K. Yugindro.

The hunger strike was launched on September 24 demanding release of the varsity community and withdrawal of the security forces deployed on the varsity campus.

Yugindro will be meeting the state government today for talks to release the students and teachers and if he fails to fulfil the assurance we will decide further course of agitations, said a girl hosteller.

Six teachers and nine students of the varsity were arrested after a raid conducted at the hostels of the varsity on the intervening mid-night of September 20 and 21 on charge of manhandling, Yugindro when he came to take the charge of vice-chancellor.
