KANGPOKPI | Sept 7 : As part of the voluntary initiative of providing free school shoes as basic part of the free uniform to every child at the elementary level in government schools spearheaded by chief minister, N. Biren Singh and Education minister, Th. Radheshyam, free school shoes were distributed today in Kangpokpi district.
Launching of the free school shoes under School Shoes Fund, a voluntary scheme was held at the conference hall, ZEO Kangpokpi, in the presence of finance officer of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Manipur, Wanneilen Serto, senior account officer, Sana Ningthim, and ADPM of RMSA, Chitra Prakash and ZEO of Kangpokpi, Lhingneikim Kipgen.
School shoes for students of Class I to V in various schools under ZEO Kangpokpi were handed over to the authority concerned free of cost after the launching programme while the ZEO Kangpokpi and officials of SSA and RMSA also visited Goma Devi High School in Toribari and Kalapahar High School in Kalapahar.
SSA finance officer, Wanneilen Serto and ZEO of Kangpokpi, Lhingneikim Kipgen distributed school shoes to the students of Class I to V at Goma Devi High School and Kalapahar High School while having interaction with the concerned school authority and also entrusted them to distribute the remaining to the school students.
Wanneilen Serto told media persons that School Shoes Fund is a voluntary noble initiative with a sole aim to provide school shoes to every child studying in elementary level in government schools that was announced in the well-wishing ceremony held at Hatta Kangjeibung on January 28, 2018.
He said that as per the current norms of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, two sets of uniforms are provided for all girl’s students and children belonging to SC/ST/BL families in government schools within a ceiling of Rs. 600 per child per annum.
He also said that after due consideration of the gap in the existing system felt the need to fill the void by conceptualizing a mass voluntary movement and to kick start the initiative chief minister and Education minister spearheaded the initiative by pledging to contribute funds for providing free school shoes as basic part of the free uniform.
He continued that currently as many as 22,000 pairs of shoes have been distributed in all 16 districts of the state while the distribution is already completed for the districts of Pherzawl, Kamjong and Tengoupal.
He further said that the department of Education(s) has undertaken partnership venture with Romi Bag Industries, Imphal for the supply of school shoes at a flat rate of Rs.190 only per pair irrespective of the size from Class I to V which was inclusive of taxes.
