Agartala, August 3: The Border Security Force (BSF), with the coordination of the Tripura police on Thursday, recovered a record quantity of dry cannabis in Bishalgarh subdivision under Sipahijala District of Tripura.
It has been considered as the biggest seizure of cannabis, popularly known as ganja, in the state till now after the new government started its special drive against drug smuggling.
According to police, 3,350 kg of ganja worth Rs 1. 68 crore was seized during the operation from near the Indo-Bangla border in Sipahijala district.
The joint search operation was conducted by the BSF of the Anandapur BOP and Kalamcherra PS of Kamalnagar.
The cannabis were recovered from a betel leaf garden, hidden underground in 87 drums.
As per reports, the BSF troops raided two houses at Kamalnagar village in Sipahijala, about 70-km from the state capital and seized the ganja.
“Two persons were detained in this connection,” the police said.
It may be mentioned that the state police is using drone cameras to record the satellite imagery to detect ganja plantations in Sipahijala, which is the largest ganja growing district in Tripura.~Time8
