Imphal, July 25, 2018(DIPR): Water Resources Minister and Government Spokesperson Shri Letpao Haokip today stated that the State Government is firm on its stand not to allow any kind of alteration in the territorial integrity of Manipur under any circumstances. Speaking to media persons at a press meet held today at his Secretariat Office, he also said that the State Government is ready for an assembly session if the need arises.
The newly-appointed spokesperson told the media persons that the Government will not tolerate any amendment to the State’s territory. The Government is determined not to allow any kind of autonomy to certain areas or section of the people as an outcome of the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement, he added.
Shri Letpao Haokip appealed to the political parties not to politicise the issue and mislead the public which can hurt the sentiments of the people of the State. He added that the present State Government is clear on its stand to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur at any cost. He also appealed to the public not to panic and have faith with the Government. He also gave assurance that the Government will face all the issues and threats to the State and its people and sought cooperation from the public.
Responding to the accusation of Opposition Leader Shri Okram Ibobi Singh regarding the non-extension of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Session, Shri Letpao Haokip said that the recently concluded two-day session was planned after a detailed meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. If there is a need for an Assembly Session, the State Government is ready to convene Special Session if the need arise, he added.
On the issue of Manipur University, Shri Letpao Haokip said that the Government is trying to bring an amicable solution at the earliest to ensure that the academic careers of the students are not affected. With the constitution of the ‘Fact Finding Committee’, a reasonable and positive outcome will surely emerge, he opined.
The Minister also stated that no one is above the law and one cannot be punished without proven guilty. He further appealed to the public to have confidence and patience with the Government in finding out the truth on the allegations levelled against the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University. He assured non-tolerance to anyone found guilty, irrespective of stature and position.
The press meet was also attended by Chairman, Tourism Corporation Manipur Limited Dr Sapam Ranjan, Sekmai AC MLA Shri H. Dingo, Keirao AC MLA Shri L. Rameshwor, and Yaiskul AC MLA Shri Th. Satyabrata Singh. The Minister and the MLAs appealed to the public to work together with the Government and to support the government in bringing solution to the issues faced by Manipur at the earliest. (DIPR)
