The seventh round of tripartite talks with Government of India, Government of Manipur and United Naga Council (UNC) on the district creation issue was held on Saturday at DRDA Hall, Senapati District Headquarter.

Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary (NE) Ministry of Home Affairs who represented the government of India chaired the meeting while Agriculture minister of Manipur, V. Hangkhalian, Education Minister Th. Radheshyam, Principal Secretary (Finance and Health) Vumlunmang Vualnam, Secretary (Revenue) T. Ranjit Singh, represented Manipur government.

Imphal, May 23, 2018 (DIPR): Scores of people turned up on the Meeyamgi Numit to address their grievances to the Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

The Chief Minister attended to as many as about 780 complaints and personally met nearly 2500 people from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Speaking to the media persons, Chief Minister appreciated the tireless efforts of the government officials to make the new initiatives of the government successful. He said that it is indeed glad to see that the employees of the government are working with sincerity and seriously for the welfare of the people.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday said, the state government would table a bill to protect indigenous people of the state in the next session of the legislative assembly. A day after eight Rohingyas were arrested from Imphal, Singh expressed his concern over the manner the illegal immigrants are entering Imphal city with the help from local populace.

IMPHAL | May 21 : In a major breakthrough, 6 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles and 27 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector Assam Rifles recovered huge quantities of arms, ammunition and explosives today, said a release by PRO IGAR (South).

It said that the consignment of the weapons and ammunitions is for Ukhrul to Imphal.

In a show of total solidarity with North East Students Organization (NESO) for the states opposed to the government of India’s attempt to accord easy grant of citizenship status to Bangladeshi Hindus, via the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016,   thousands of student activists on Monday staged demonstrations across the state capitals-- Kohima (Nagaland), Shillong (Meghalaya), Agartala (Tripura) Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) and Aizawl (Mizoram) led by the respective apex bodies under the aegis of North East Students’ Organisation (NESO).

Scientists have launched a multi-agency effort to contain the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala, which has claimed six lives so far, including that of two brothers and a nursing assistant who treated them, officials told The Indian Express. A rapid response team from the National Centre for Disease Control in New Delhi, the National Institute of Virology in Pune and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme in Kerala, where a high alert has been issued, have initiated a joint investigation into the outbreak, they said.

GUWAHATI: As chief ministers from all North East Democratic Alliance (Neda)-ruled states came together on Sunday, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio said the solution to the Naga political problem will not go against the interest of neighbouring states.

"The support of all northeastern states is essential to find a solution to the Naga political problem even as the Centre and Nagaland government work together for an early resolution," Rio said at the third Neda conclave. "I say with confidence that when the Naga issue is resolved, a lot of thing in Northeast will ease out in terms of progress and development. The resolution is in the interest of the region," he added.

Militant suspects on Sunday morning set on fire a cement carrying truck engaged in construction of Imphal-Jiribam railway project, along the National Highway-37 in Noney district of Manipur.

Police said the truck was set ablaze by three unknown persons around 10.30 am while the truck was heading towards a tunnel construction site near Noney district headquarters. The miscreants waylaid the truck between Irang bridge and Awangkhul-2 under the jurisdiction of Noney police station about 92 km away from Imphal and set on fire the truck without further warning, said Luikham, Additional SP Noney police station.

Accusing the BJP of trying to lure its MLAs, the Congress on Friday released an audio clip of a purported conversation, in Kannada, between its newly elected MLA from Raichur Rural constituency, Basanagouda Daddal, and former BJP minister and Bellary baron G Janardhan Reddy, in which the latter allegedly offered a ministry and “wealth” for defecting to the BJP.

In the audio clip, a person who sounds like Reddy offers Daddal direct access to “the national president” and promises “100 times the wealth you currently have”. “Today, you will be a minister… What I am saying is that I will make you sit one-to-one with the big man and speak to them myself… You will make 100 times the wealth you currently have,” he says.

Confirming that the ties with former ally –BJP- has reached a point of ‘No Return’ NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Friday categorically stated that the four NPF legislators in Manipur now have no reason to be part of the BJP-led government in Manipur since NPF as a party organization has completely severed ties BJP.

Muri Linggi, a 40-year-old resident of Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district, has earned the distinction of becoming the third woman from Arunachal Pradesh to scale Mount Everest, after Tine Mena and Anshu Jamsenpa.

Linggi, a mother of four girls, scaled the world’s highest peak at 8 am on May 14, an official report of the district administration said. Congratulating Linggi on her feat, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said she has made the state proud.
