Imphal, September 19, 2018 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh launched the first helicopter service of the State between Imphal and Jiribam at Harinagar Helipad in Jiribam District today.

He also inaugurated Ima Keithel and Harinagar Helipad apart from laying foundation stone for construction of transit accommodation of doctors and teachers during his maiden visit to the district bordering Assam.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Jiribam has now become a prime area due to the presence of the State’s lone railhead. As such, the State Government would consider formulating a comprehensive plan for development of Jiribam in consultation with experts.

Opposition Congress Thursday organized a protest rally till Tripura Raj Bhavan in Agartala and submitted a memorandum to the office of Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki over alleged scam of Rs. 1.30 lakh crore in purchase of Rafale aircrafts from France.

It is the third agitation on the issue in North East India by Youth Congress after Assam and Manipur.

Addressing a press conference at Pradesh Congress Bhavan here this evening, party president Birajit Sinha said the movement was jointly organized by Congress and its frontal organizations like Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI).

A massive rally was carried out in Tamenglong district headquarters, Manipur today demanding the settlement of the Indo-Naga political issue. Today’s rally was organized by Inpui Naga Union, Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), Rongmei Naga Council and Zeme Naga Council under the aegis of the United Naga Council. The rally was also participated by the United Naga Council (UNC) and Naga Women Union (NWU).

A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong.

Manipur University vice-chancellor Professor Adya Prasad Pandey was suspended by the HRD ministry with immediate effect from Monday until the inquiry constituted against him was completed and action taken thereof. The suspension order was signed by deputy secretary to the government of India Surat Singh.

The order said, “Due to a long-drawn agitation against Pandey, by the students and teachers in the campus of the Manipur University, the University was in a state of turmoil.”

Tripura’s ruling BJP Tuesday said that Myanmar-based drug peddlers have threatened to kill Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Addressing a press conference at BJP state headquarters at Krishnanagar, veteran party leader and former minister Ratan Chakraborty said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has received reports that drug peddlers had a meeting in Myanmar and they have hatched a conspiracy to liquidate Chief Minister Deb.

“There are reports with Union Home Minister that drug peddlers in Myanmar are trying to liquidate Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. We have got reports from our party sources. Officials from the Home Ministry have spoken with our party leaders as well”, Chakraborty said.

Three days after a 26-year-old man was lynched in a village near Imphal, the Manipur police Sunday said that four policemen have been suspended and an inquiry ordered after a purported video of the incident showed that armed police personnel were present at the village when the victim was still alive.

Sources said that police personnel were sent to the village after receiving information about the lynching but that their vehicles were blocked by locals and they reached the village on foot.

Imphal West SP Jogeschandra Haobijam told The Indian Express: “Four Manipur police personnel, including one sub-inspector, who were at the spot, have been suspended on Sunday.”

Imphal, September 16: The Assam Rifles recovered narcotics worth Rs 2 crore on Saturday.

According to a press release, the party pill drugs were seized from a four-wheeler coming from the Indo-Myanmar border of Moreh towards the capital Imphal.

Following specific intelligence input by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Imphal, the vehicle was intercepted at Khudengtabi check-post in Tengnoupal district.

Prime accused Yurreingam Ronra Shimray @Thangmeingam age 24 years S/O Starson R Shimray, Kharasom Lazo village, in the theft of Scorpio and subsequent murder of inspector Neiphretuo Metsie-o of Nagaland Armed Police was arrested today by RPF ( Railway protection force ), GRP ( Government railway police ) and Assam police, from gauhati train station around 7 pm.

He board the Dibrugarh- Rangia express train no. 15928 at Dimapur today at 12:10 pm in the afternoon and reach gauhati around 6:30pm.

KOHIMA | Sept 15 : BJP National Secretary in-charge of Northeast and J&K, Ram Madhav said the ongoing Naga political dialogue for settlement of the Naga issue was in an advanced stage and expressed the hope that it would be resolved soon.

Talking to the press people here at the Heliport on Saturday, the National BJP leader, while stating the Naga issue as complicated, said all the stakeholders would taken on board while trying to find a permanent solution to it.

A week after ABI Neiphretuo Metsie-o of 5th NAP ‘C’ Coy Pfutsero, went missing since September 7, his dead body was found in a decomposed state at a place between Lasumi and Zapami village under Zuketsa circle, Pfutsero sub-division on Saturday.

According to initial reports, the victim was reportedly hit with a blunt object. Post Mortem was conducted Saturday and reports were expected in a day or two. The body was later taken to late Neiphretuo’s native village Chiechama.

IMPHAL | Sept 14 : Police have arrested five individuals including a personnel of India Reserve Battalion (IRB), who were involved in lynching of 26-year-old Md. Farooque Khan, from Lilong Haoreibi, at Tharoijam Awang Leikai yesterday.

The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has also taken up a suo-motto case in connection with the incident. The commission has directed the DGP Manipur to take enquiry in the matter and submit a report by September 22.

IMPHAL | Sept 13 : One suspected vehicle lifter succumbed to his injuries after an enraged mob thrashed him today early morning at Tharoijam Awang Leikai.

Two companions of the deceased managed to escape from the scene and locals burnt down one car driven by the suspected vehicle lifters. The incident occurred in the early morning today at around 4:30 am.

According to the locals, the suspected vehicle lifters came inside the ‘Sangoi’ (a shed) to steal the vehicle in the early morning at about 3:30 am. It is said that the house belonged to one Moirangthem Girani, 53, son of (Late) M. Gopal of Tharoijam Awang Leikai. He is presently posted at second IRB.
