Hornbill International Music Festival (HIMF), scheduled for December 1 to 10, presenting Korean Pop, Electronic Dance Music (EDM), Blues, Christian Music & Rock – all on one stage at Agri Expo, Dimapur, as part of the Hornbill Festival 2018.
HIMF will be managed by LiveNow Events, under the patronage of the Nagaland State Government and Music Task Force (MTF), this was announced during a press conference Monday, at hotel Saramati.
Briefing about the event Atsung Jamir mentioned that altogether 24 bands, including five Nagaland bands will contest for the top-billed rock contest in the country. While four Nagaland bands qualified for the contest through auditions, the fifth – Stereotypes got a wild card entry after Mizoram band Kroashia pulled out of the event. The other contesting bands are from Karnataka, Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Assam, Sikkim, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
While highlighting about the event schedule, Atsung mentioned that Nagaland Unleashed will be the first day event where Local Naga artistes will be performing which was a platform for the best upcoming bands from Nagaland. The second day (Day 2) will witness Praise Sunday – an evening of Christian Music by some of the gospel bands and artistes from Nagaland. The Praise Sunday concept was first introduced by LiveNow Events in the 2017 edition with the objective to provide a platform to the talented Christian Music bands and solo artistes. The amount collected on the second day will be donated to the charity in particular.
Another key attraction, being held for the first time, would be the Great Hornbill Guitar Ensemble featuring some of the top Naga guitarists who will be on stage on December 3, dedicating it to notable guitarists.
The key attraction this year will be the K-Pop band MONT, who will take centre stage on December 4, in their pre-debut concert. The Korean boy band’s first teaser video garnered rave reviews and the band is being billed as the next big thing on the K-Pop stage.
The Hornbill International Rock Contest prelims will kick off from December 5 to 7, and the finale will be held on December 8.
The penultimate day of the festival December 9, will feature famed Shillong-based Blues Rock band Soulmate. With numerous national and international performances, Soulmate is a household name for fans of the genre. The last day of the festival December 10, will present EDM Nite – Ukranian DJ Siana Catherine on the console revving up the pitch. DJ Siana is one of the youngest DJs gaining fame in the international music world and playing to packed venues.
Popular Nagaland band Lords of Rock (LOR) frontman Clement Imsong will host both the music festival and the rock contest.
It may be mentioned that LiveNow Events is an event management company founded in 2015 by a group of young Naga entrepreneurs. This is the second time LiveNow Events has been chosen to organize and manage the HIMF and HIRC.
