MOREH | Sept 25 : In the wee hours of today, an improvised explosive device (IED) was found planted by unknown miscreants at the border town Moreh, at a distance of 80-90 meters from the Indo-Myanmar border.
It is said that the IED was found in a residential area at Dalpati Ward No. II area where there are houses erected closely to one another, though it was planted by the side of road less travelled by the people.
The bomb was fitted inside a black coloured plastic bag and planted at the roadside. It was discovered in the early morning today by AR personnel who were conducting ROP at the said road.
Upon receiving information, Tengnoupal district SP, Dr S Ibomcha Singh and ASP Th Robinsun along with senior officers of the police and jawans of 11AR came at the site to conduct inspection.
Since three were no proper equipment to collect the bomb or experts to handle it, further work was delayed until the bomb expert team from Imphal arrived at the spot at around 12 pm and collected the bomb.
It is said that the IED bomb weighed around 3-4 Kgs and had a mobile phone keypad was found attached to it. The bomb experts expressed that the bomb was a “Remote controlled plus mobile IED.”
Afterwards, Moreh police and bomb experts safely exploded the bomb at a forest area located at a distance of two kilometres away from Holenphai village at around 12:37 pm today.~IFP
