“One man died at the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science hospital today due to negligence of hospital authority,” alleged Yaikhom Ranjit while briefing media person today at JNIMS hospital.
Ranjit is the younger brother of Yaikhom Govind, 29, son of Y. Ingocha of Sekta Mayai Leikai, Imphal East. He further said his brother Govind was brought to Sawombung primary health centre with a case of stomach ache on November 10.
As the condition was getting severe he was referred to JNIMS hospital and admitted on the same day at about 4.30 am he was admitted at the hospital and the diagnosis was started, he added.
After he was given some medication, his stomach ache resided. However, at about noontime today, Govind complain for his stomach ache again, the doctor concerned instructed the nurse to give an injection to get relief from his pain. After he was given the injection Govind slept but when the family members tried to wake him, Govind did not respond, Ranjit added.
He said the nurse asked him to sign death certificate of Govind in some minutes after he was declared dead.
He alleged that the death of Govind is mysterious and there is a suspicion of negligence of doctors and nurse during diagnosis.
Later in the evening, a statement released to the media stated that with the mysterious dead of Govind, a ‘Joint Action Committee against the Unnatural death of Yaikhom Gobin Meitei S/O Y. Ingocha Meitei of Sekta Mayai Leikai’ has been formed.
In the statement, convenor of JAC, K. Somo Sharma said decrying the mysterious death of Gobin, indefinite Imphal-Ukhrul bandh will be initiated from midnight of June 11. The cause of death might be due to the negligence of the doctor concerned, it said. The doctor concerned must be booked immediately and a negotiating table must be arranged immediately between hospital authority and members of JAC regarding the issue, the statement added.
The indefinite bandh will not cover religious ritual ceremony, health, essential services.
