KANGPOKPI | Sept 9 : In a major seizure of drugs by Kangpokpi police along the National Highway 2, Imphal-Dimapur road, a huge quantity of opium and heroin powder were seized from a passenger Tata Winger on September 7 at around 8:30 pm.
According to police source, a team of Kangpokpi police under the supervision of SP of Kangpokpi intercepted one passenger Tata Winger bearing registration number MN02G-1247 while conducting frisking and checking operations along the national highway at various locations.
During checking, six packets of opium wrapped in polythene were found hidden inside the bonnet of the vehicle. Each packet weighs 1 Kg each. On further checking, another five packets of suspected heroin powder were found inside a black bag pack concealed inside Godzilla (mosquito coil) packets.
The opium and heroin powder along with the vehicle were seized by Kangpokpi police.
In connection with the seizure, police also arrested two persons who have been identified as Subi Khatri, alias Dip, 38, son of Bakta Bahadur Khatri of Aisan village under Saikul sub-division, presently staying at Koirengei and Puyam Nanao, 35, son of (Late) P. Chaoren Singh of Moirangthem Leijubam Leikai, Moirang, Bishenpur district. A case has been registered for investigation.
The seized opium packets would worth around Rs. 9 lakhs while the heroin must be valued around Rs. 50,000, in current market value.~IFP
