IMPHAL | Jun 19 : Chief minister, N. Biren Singh has announced that the ruling MLAs have stood firm to build 20 to 30 houses in each constituency for the families who houses have been affected by the recent flood, from the MLA local area development fund.

He made this announcement during the occasion of donating 500 number of 5 kilogram FLT cylinder to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) today to help the people affected by spates of flood that occurred recently in the state at the chief minister’s secretariat at Babupara.

KANGPOKPI | Jun 19 : The mysterious earth cracks that occurred last June resulting in sinking of vast areas of J. Songtun and Kalikhola village in Kangpokpi have reoccured this monsoon, hitting hard at Makuli Nepali village, the adjacent village of Kalikhola.

The deadly earth fissure at Makuli Nepali village under Champhai sub-division appeared on June 18 morning triggering alarm among the villagers of around 27 households. The village had already experienced the wrath of Kalikhola earth crack last year in some parts.

IMPHAL | Jun 18 : The non-local who uploaded video threatening Manipuris staying outside the state on social media was remanded to 15 days judicial custody by the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal West.

The non-local identified as Rupesh Kumar alias Babura Thakur, 26, son of Sanjoy Thakur of Begusarai, Bihar was charged of uploading communal videos which threatened Manipuris staying outside the state who travel en-route in trains and buses.

On May 25, the officer-in-charge of Imphal police station forwarded the report of the threat video to Cybercrime unit, Imphal West, stating that one Facebook user, Suresh Meisnam had the video clip in which the non-locals issued threats to Manipuris travelling en-route Bh=ihar in trains and buses. It said the video has the potential of spreading hatred among different classes of society and its upload seems deliberate and with the intention of destroying the social fabric.

IMPHAL | Jun 18 : Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has declared that it will support any movement or agitation to remove the Vice- Chancellor (VC) of Manipur University, said a release. If any of the individuals or authorities involved remains silent on the issue, there is no reason that the students’ leaders, teachers and the VC should not be publicly scandalised for their involvement in corrupt money earning schemes while adding that further actions will also be initiated against them. The release also called for the authorities concerned to devise a solution to retain the academic atmosphere of the institution especially in holding examinations within forty-eight hours.

CHURACHANDPUR | Jun 18 : A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded near the remote Kanggui area of Sangaikot sub division yesterday evening killing one person while injuring another.

The injured person was rushed to Churachandpur District hospital from where he was later referred to Imphal by the doctors for further treatment as his condition was serious.

IMPHAL | Jun 17 : Chief minister, N. Biren Singh has asked the Union home minister Rajnath Singh to extend immediate flood assistance for the flood victims of the state.

Biren said this to reporters when he visited Maiba Khul and Mongjam village of Imphal East district and met the flood victims of the area today. He also inspected the Flood Relief Camps which are being opened at Maiba Khul Primary School and Mongjam Mamang Leikai.

The chief minister informed that he had talked on phone with the union home minister and briefed about the current flood situation in the state.

IMPHAL | Jun 17 : A girl from Manipur, New Canaan Village, Loktak Project Churachandpur district was found dead at her rented house in South Delhi.

According to information provided by relative of the deceased, S.D Dimpuna said Helena Gangmei, the deceased, was staying alone at the second floor of a rented house in Sunshine Colony, Maharanibagh, South Delhi.

On the morning of June 15 around 8, she was found dead inside the under-construction lift of her rented building. Though the security alerted the incident and the deceased was brought to Jeevan Hospital Maharanibagh, doctors declared her as brought dead, he lamented.

IMPHAL | Jun 17 : Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the government to furnish the drafted bill of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system within this month to the stakeholders of the state.

Briefing media persons today at its Sega Road office, JCILPS convenor, Arjun Telheiba said a meeting with the stakeholders from both hills and valley and government representatives headed by chief minister, N. Biren was held on May 19 regarding the implementation of the ILP system in the state.

Manipur health department has formed a rapid action force (RAF) to combat possible outbreak of contagious diseases following the flood. With flood situation improving, authorities of Manipur government Saturday concentrated on providing relief materials to the affected people.
State health minister L Jayentakumar said that soon after its formation, RAF teams have been sent out to the flood affected areas to check the health conditions of the flood affected people, particularly those taking at the relief camps. The teams will also keep a close watch for any outbreak of contagious diseases, he added.

SENAPATI, JUNE 16 (NNN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced that it will impose a 12-hour bandh along the national highways and district highways in ‘Naga areas’ in the State of Manipur on June 18 to demand the early settlement of the Naga political issue.

The UNC said the bandh will be effective from 6 am of June 18, till 6 pm of the day. The UNC has also warned against violators of the bandh. Media, water supply, medical services, security forces will be exempted from the purview of the bandh. “We demand the early settlement of the Naga political issue at the earliest based on the unique history and situation of the Naga people,” said the UNC publicity wing in a press release.

An army jawan was martyred in Pakistani firing in Naushera sector along the Line of Control in Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing of mortars, thereby violating the ceasefire agreement. “Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of mortars on routine Indian Army patrol, 700 metres inside Indian territory in Naushera sector along the Line of Control (LoC) this morning,” a senior Army officer stated.

In the exchange of fire, Rifleman Bikas Gurung was grievously injured and succumbed to his injuries. The 21-year-old soldier belonged to Khunka Khuki village of Manipur, and is survived by his mother, Beana May Gurung.

IMPHAL | Jun 15 : On the matter of the formation of a BJP government in the state, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has asked the Governor Najma Heptullah to admit boldly that she has made a mistake instead of trying to confuse the matter.

A press statement by general secretary of MPCC, Kh Devabrata Singh said that the statement of the Governor reported in Imphal Free Press in its June 13 edition cannot go unchallenged as what the Governor said is incorrect. It stated that there is a need to put records straight and that the public must be informed.
