Saikot, July 26, 2018 (DIPR): Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen vehemently expressed that gender equality is an essential element to empower women. The first and foremost step towards empowering women starts at home when equal opportunities are given to the children or siblings irrespective of their gender to pursue education and the freedom to take their own decisions, she added. This was stated by the Minister while gracing as Chief Guest at the Hmar Women Association’s (HWA) Pearl Jubilee Celebration held today at Saikot Youth Club Hall, Saikot, Churachandpur.
While addressing the gatherings, Minister Nemcha said that equalising the rights of women and men in the society improves quality of work and also the economic status of the state and nation, as a whole. She continued women empowerment is the key to strengthen participation in the decision-making which is the most important key to socio-economic development.
Nemcha highlighted women-centric welfare schemes like One Stop Centre - Sakhi, Women Help-line (181), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) which are introduced and implemented through Social Welfare Department. She encouraged the women present on the occasion to avail all such schemes as it will further uplift their lives.
As part of the celebration, HWA Pearl Jubilee Celebration Souvenir (Magazine) was released by the Chief Guest and HYA Joint Headquarters Ambulance Project was also launched.
Shri TN Haokip, MLA Saikot A/C and Smt. Sherry Lalthangzo, IES, North Eastern Council, Government of India also graced as Special Guest and President respectively. (DIPR)
