JIRIBAM | Oct 11 : A minor girl was allegedly raped by her maternal uncle at his residence after the girl was taken from her house on the pretext of cooking food.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 12 noon of September 21, 2018 at Nunkhal village, a remote area of Jiribam district.
As per report of the victim’s mother, the accused is her younger brother who is a widower with three children. The victim’s mother stated that the accused had come to her house saying that he had to go for a work somewhere and requesting her daughter to stay at his house during his absence and prepare meals for his three children.
Trusting her younger brother, the mother had handed over her daughter to the maternal uncle who took advantage of the situation and raped the minor girl while she was sleeping at night. Later, the next morning when the uncle tried to rape her again, the girl escaped from his clutches and ran away from the house, and narrated the entire ordeal to her mother.
The family of the girl being poor and having no prior knowledge at that time did not file a report with the police immediately. Only when the victim’s family approached Jiribam Police station on October 9 and lodged an FIR, the police came into prompt action and arrested the accused and registered a case in charge for rape at Jiribam police station.
The minor victim has been sent for a medical examination and her statement will be recorded soon.
The accused has been identified as Takhellambam Joykumar Singh, 35, son of (Late) T. Radhakanto Singh of Nunkhal Village, Jiribam.
