IMPHAL | Oct 4 : Students of both departments of Chemistry and Statistics, Manipur University staged a sit-in protest demanding the release of the teachers and students who were arrested during the raid conducted at boys’ hostel of MU and teachers’ quarters in the intervening night of September 20 and 21.
While speaking to media person, one of the protestor, Jaritarani Thoudam who is currently in the second semester of her M Sc. Chemistry course, said that normalcy will never return to MU until the arrested teachers and students are released without any conditions. Therefore releasing them is one of the amicable solutions to bring back normalcy in the campus.
She stated that the students’ community also condemned the deployment of strong high security in the campus. They have been demanding for its removal and the chief minister had also assured of fulfilling our demand, but so far no action is being taken up, the chemistry student added.
She also urged the state authority to remove the security forces deployed in the varsity campus at the earliest as it had destroyed the sanctity of the university.
Due to long impending agitation, the careers of thousands of student are at stake. Therefore, to save their lives and the future of the state, the authority concerned should resolve the agitation at earliest, she appealed.
