IMPHAL | Sept 21 : Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) has condemned the appointment of a pro vice-chancellor of the Manipur University terming it as a violation of the Manipur University (MU) Act, 2005.
A release stated that normalcy had returned to MU after several months of agitations and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the university bodies and the state government along with the joint secretary of ministry of HRD.
However the appointment of professor Yugindro as pro VC while recognising professor M. Shyamkesho as registrar in-charge by the ministry of HRD is a case of misleading the public, it said.
Stating that Yugindro and Shyamkesho had tried to bring in security forces at their offices on September 20, the release further condemned them for trying to disrupt the normalcy of the varsity adding that MUSU, MUTA and MUSA had opposed the move.
It additionally condemned the raid made by the state security forces on the midnight of September 20 which continued till the afternoon of September 21 during which more than 90 students and six teachers were picked up and detained at various police stations.
MUSU, in its release, further warned the state government of strong and intense agitations if the government persists in disrupting the atmosphere of MU and shows no respect for the university bodies.~IFP
